In 2014 president Poroshenko explained why Ukraine will flourish and people in Donbass will live in their basements. I have seen the devastation with my own eyes and many people living in the war zone consider 2022 is pay back time.

A RENEWED SPIRIT
The ceasefire across Oleshky and the surrounding Kherson region has provided residents with the freedom to move, access to food, clean water, medicine, plus a renewed sense of dignity without the constant threat of attack.
Let Oleshky become the starting point for lasting peace.

For the 3rd time in 5 years, the Sovjet Ereveld has been desecrated.
Impunity breeds further acts of vandalism. Is the Dutch government unable to maintain law and order on its own territory?

"Sommige infostrijders (en politici) zijn ontevreden over het staakt-het-vuren en de evacuatie van burgers uit Oleshki. Het vooruitzicht op vrede, hoe klein ook, is voor hen te veel. Veel Oekraïners daarentegen zijn minder bang voor de vruchtbare onderhandelingen met Rusland."
Some infowarriors (and politicians) are displeased by the ceasefire and civilian evacuation of Oleshky. The spectre of peace is just too much for them, however small. Many in Ukraine, however, are less terrified by fruitful negotiations with Russia.

Its sad to see Europe's demise.
In 2021 I wrote about my expectations for the future in one of the last chapters of my book The Demise of the West:
1. Currencies will become more volatile (edit: the Japanese yen is a good example of what happens when countries' balance sheets are messed up)
2. A new global reserve currency
3. People will lose faith in governments
4. Smart governments will (have to) become the standard
5. A lack of well-paid working floor jobs
6. De facto nationalisation of people
7. A battle between technology and personal liberties
8. Guilty until proven innocent
9. Peak United States
10. A divided European Union
11. India's emergence (edit: this has yet to happen)
12. A geopolitical power shift and the end of personal freedoms (edit: on how authoritarian models will always outperform democratic models)
13. Uncontrollable inflation
14. Climate will drive policy
15. Religion and spirituality will return to the West (edit: this is a longer-term process)
16. A reset is unavoidable

#NazisRaus

The famous "Picard facepalm" meme is from the Star Trek episode "The Drumhead," aired in 1991, in which the crew becomes ensnared in a vicious spiral of national security paranoia, xenophobia, irrational suspicion and runaway confirmation bias and begins to carry out an ever-widening witch hunt against innocent crewmembers, baselessly and opportunistically accusing them of being "Romulan agents," stripping them of their rights and requiring them to prove their innocence.
Picard, having opposed it all along, is eventually hauled before the inquisition himself, provoking the famous "facepalm" gesture. He then refuses to defend himself, instead making a general plea for the entire system of rights that is under attack.
"With the first link the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
His opponent, the inquisitor, enraged by this, loses control and exposes herself as an authoritarian, and her spell is broken.
The episode was originally an allegory for McCarthyism in United States history. It should be required viewing for European establishments today, now a decade deep into a reenactment of the very same pathology, extending a culture of national security suspicion over everything, converting every domain of civilian life into a source of "threats," stigmatising differences of political opinion as "disinformation," thuggishly smearing opponents as being "pro-Russian" and eroding the framework of fundamental rights that gives our societies any claim to being democracies in the first place.
Those of us who know the importance of those rights will have lost count of how many times over recent years, listening to European political leaders lurch further into this psychosis, we have felt like putting our head in our hands in the universal gesture of dismay.

In België 30 dagen. In Portugal niets.
Humanitaire missie in Oleshky voltooid.
We have completed the humanitarian mission in Oleshky. The aid has been delivered and residents have been given safe passage to leave voluntarily for the destination of their choice: either Russia or Ukraine.
We worked with Dmitry Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. I thank Melania Trump @FLOTUS for her assistance and coordination efforts.
I believe, such missions coordinated by Melania Trump should be carried out on a regular basis. As this example has demonstrated, it is possible to reach agreement and find solutions to save human lives.

I personally continue to coordinate the humanitarian mission.
☝️At this stage, those who wished to leave Oleshky have had the opportunity to do so and are now on their way to Ukraine. Humanitarian aid has been delivered. The convoys have split up, and I am now heading back to Ukraine.
The ceasefire has been in effect for 87 hours. No violations have been recorded.
I would like to thank the Ukrainian Defence Forces for making this humanitarian mission possible!
❗️Our work continues in accordance with the agreements reached with Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner, Yana Lantratova, with the support and coordination of US @FLOTUS

"'homes were being blown away' — woman evacuated from Alyoshki tells RT of terror she felt.
Her husband was killed by a Ukrainian attack.
She survived with help of Russian soldiers: they 'provided us with food, drink'."
"Alyoshki’s chief physician Vladimir tells RT of horrors he witnessed before he was evacuated
'My friend died. It’s a loss, you understand'
'I was there, and I can say that the Ukrainians were the ones who were shooting'."
Sensationalist media which exploited the issue of people starving in Alyoshki, blaming Russia--deliberately whitewashing the reality that it is the Ukrainian forces doing the blockading, bombing, mining...causing the starvation--will not report what civilians who managed to escape are saying.
RT:
"Ukrainian forces have effectively laid siege to the frontline town of Alyoshki in Russia’s Kherson Region, leaving civilians facing acute shortages of food, water, and medicine, residents who managed to escape have told RT.
Located on the left bank of the Dnieper River opposite the Ukrainian-held city of Kherson, the town has been largely cut off from essential supplies and basic services for months. Russian authorities estimate that between 1,500 and 2,000 civilians remain trapped there, including elderly residents and around 15 children.
Kherson Governor Vladimir Saldo has accused Kiev’s forces of deliberately choking off humanitarian deliveries to Alyoshki by remotely mining access roads and targeting vehicles carrying food, fuel, and medicine. Strikes have also damaged the town’s energy and communications infrastructure, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
...'The town is burning. There’s nothing left intact,' one evacuee said, describing a destroyed water pump and food prices soaring beyond residents’ reach. She claimed no food supplies have entered the town since May..."

Humanitarian Mission in Oleshky: Delivering Humanitarian Aid to Everyone in Need
ℹ️ We are currently in Armiansk, working alongside Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova and coordinating further steps within the framework of this mission. Journalists from three countries have also joined us to cover the mission.
Everything has now been prepared to a high standard. We are delivering humanitarian aid to the residents of Oleshky. Our main task is to ensure that this assistance reaches every person in need. Particular attention is being paid to older people, persons with disabilities, and anyone who is unable to care for themselves due to their health condition or other circumstances.
Twenty-five buses with a total capacity of 750 passengers have been prepared, along with ambulances for people with limited mobility.
❗️Another equally important priority is ensuring that civilians have the opportunity to leave the city. Everyone who wishes to leave Oleshky will be given the opportunity to do so safely. At the same time, those who decide to remain will be able to stay and will receive all the necessary humanitarian assistance.
At this stage, it is equally important that both sides observe the ceasefire.
I would also like to express my special gratitude to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We continue our work.
I thank Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova for her cooperation in carrying out this mission.
☝️Special thanks to U.S. @FLOTUS for her mediation and coordination efforts.
Our work is ongoing. I will keep you informed about further steps and results.
