Chinese investors are rotating back into gold: China's gold-backed ETFs have recorded 14 consecutive daily inflows ending Monday, the longest streak since March. Over this period, these funds have attracted +$1.2 billion. The largest single-day inflow during this streak totaled +$370 million. Before this rebound, China's gold-backed ETFs recorded outflows in 38 of 44 trading sessions. This comes as elevated volatility in China's stock market has renewed interest in alternative assets, particularly among institutional investors. Chinese investors are increasingly bullish on gold.

Russia is selling its gold reserves at a rapid pace: The Bank of Russia's gold holdings dropped -900,000 ounces in the first 4 months of 2026, to 73.9 million ounces, the lowest since February 2022. Gold prices averaged ~$4,800 per ounce over the same period. Therefore, if Russia sold gold at the market price, the sales are estimated to have generated ~$4.3 billion in proceeds. Russia's central bank began reducing its gold reserves last year after the Finance Ministry liquidated gold and foreign currency assets from the National Wellbeing Fund to offset budget deficits driven by declining energy revenues. Before the pandemic, the Bank of Russia used to be one of the world’s largest official gold buyers, taking in nearly all domestically mined output until it halted purchases in early 2020. Russia is increasingly selling gold to raise cash.

#Silver Massive Short - Bian Ximing, who maintains a low profile and resides primarily in Gibraltar, has accumulated nearly $3 billion from bullish positions on Shanghai Futures Exchange gold contracts since early 2022, according to Bloomberg. He has now established the exchange’s largest net short position in silver. Bian’s silver short position represents approximately 450 tons, or 30,000 contracts. The metal’s sharp decline since last week has generated a paper gain of about 2 billion yuan ($288 million). Bitcoin vs. Gold Following recent market shifts, Gold is now outperforming Bitcoin over a five-year horizon (please see chart below from John Authers). This outperformance is playing out this year...and also today, as gold bounces while Bitcoin continues to languish (CNBC charts). #markets #gold #bitcoin @johnauthers @CNBC

Below are the 2026 target weights for the Bloomberg Commodity Index (BCOM) and the S&P GSCI, the two most widely used benchmarks tracking the performance of 25 and 23 major commodity futures, respectively. Different construction methodologies result in markedly different exposures: the BCOM is broadly balanced across energy, metals and agriculture, while the S&P GSCI allocates more than half of its weight to energy. This divergence helps explain last year’s performance gap, with the BCOM delivering a 15.7% return compared with just 7.1% for the S&P GSCI. Gold, silver and copper—last year’s top performers—account for around a quarter of the BCOM, but only 13.4% of the S&P GSCI. The annual rebalancing process begins on 8 January and runs over five business days.

Panic at CME? Sure looks that way. Raising margins 2 times in 3 days with short notice will force liquidations at the market. CME Casino is raising Silver margin collateral 30% with less than 24 hours notice. A de facto market manipulation and CME knows it. They will say that this is a normal procedure. I say bullshit. It will be wild if the market shakes this off and rises into Jan 2 trading dealing with the China export restrictions on Silver.
CME hikes gold, silver, PMG margins for 2nd time in 3 days. cmegroup.com/notices/clearin…

CME Group announced an increase in margin requirements for silver futures. Starting December 29, 2025, the initial margin for March 2026 silver contracts will rise to $25,000. This move comes amid rising silver prices and growing concern about market manipulation. CME has done this in 1980 and 2011 which caused traders to sell their silver positions and the price of Silver dropped. Since Inventory is the biggest issue this time around (2025), will this March 2026 increase silver inventories? We’re entering a parabolic stage now!

🚨🇨🇳 CHINA'S SILVER EXPORT RESTRICTIONS COULD SHAKE GLOBAL INDUSTRY Starting January 1, 2026, China will require government licenses for all silver exports. The timing couldn't be worse. Silver prices have nearly doubled since May, surging from around $38 to over $74 per ounce as physical markets struggle to meet demand. Elon weighed in on the news, warning that silver is essential for "many industrial processes." He's not exaggerating. Silver is critical for solar panels, EVs, electronics, medical equipment, and 5G infrastructure. It's the most electrically conductive metal on Earth, making it irreplaceable in many applications. China controls a significant portion of global silver refining. Export restrictions mean tighter supply, higher prices, and potential bottlenecks for green energy and tech manufacturing worldwide. The energy transition just got more expensive. Source: @JessePeltan / WSJ
