Privacy is constrained by the limits of physics. A fact people do truly forget at times.

The release has been cancelled for devices not yet ported to Linux 6.18 due to a regression in the Android 6.1 GKI LTS branch. It caused a kernel panic for the Pixel 7a in our internal testing. Android already fixed it and we've applied the patch for today's upcoming release.

Our latest OS release includes our port of the 10th gen Pixels to Linux 6.18 LTS. It's now in Alpha for the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL and 10 Pro Fold. We've been doing public pre-Alpha testing and multiple days have passed with no more issues found.

Read this thread.
This is what the surveillance state enables.
And there's no accountability.
It's up to all of us to push back, no one is coming to save us.

Hi. Proton employee here, I was even famously quoted in the 404 media article.
I have spent a long-ass time debunking 404's misinfo about Proton online, like "Proton helps the FBI".
I would be wary about believing every single thing written by 404 about Proton.

There's a major state sponsored misinformation and smear campaign towards GrapheneOS in the Netherlands and Germany. The misinformation campaign includes unsubstantiated security claims not holding up to scrutiny to scare people away from it. They're also heavily misrepresenting who uses it overall.
These smear campaigns conflate GrapheneOS with forks and modifications of it sold by shady companies. Those usually include a device management app to remotely manage the devices of their customers as if they're employees. These are largely not GrapheneOS devices or have preinstalled malware apps.
A common tactic being used in these smear campaigns is to make unsubstantiated and outright false claims about the capabilities of forensic data extraction tools. They misrepresent how they get into devices. They want to scare people into using far less secure devices which are easier to exploit.
France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands are becoming increasingly authoritarian surveillance states with an ongoing crackdown against privacy. It's happening throughout the whole EU and it's likely both secure devices and end-to-end encryption without backdoors are going to end up outlawed.
There are a bunch of companies based in the EU selling phones with drastically worse privacy and security than an iPhone including Jolla, Volla, Murena and iodé. These products are effectively backdoored by not providing standard privacy and security patches/protections while misleading users.
France and other EU countries are actively cracking down on legitimate privacy and security projects while supporting unsafe products within their control. These products make it far easier to remotely exploit devices and also to bypass encryption to extract data. They're phony privacy products.
Each of the companies we've listed have participated in the misinformation and smear campaigns against GrapheneOS. Jolla spent years working closely with Putin's regime. Volla, Murena and iodé are building an EU Play Integrity API. None provides the crucial standard privacy patches/protections.
Murena is directly assisting with state anti-privacy campaigns smearing highly private and secure devices as mainly benefiting criminals. They've repeatedly falsely claimed GrapheneOS is mainly used by criminals. Here are 2 of many examples:
teapawt.org/GrapheneOS/status/2040…
clubic.com/actualite-604786-…
GrapheneOS, end-to-end encrypted messaging apps, Monero and other projects are being targeted with state and corporate propaganda and anti-privacy laws. Meanwhile, the same governments heavily fund and support phony privacy projects clearly downgrading privacy and security compared to an iPhone.
GrapheneOS is only an initial target for these state actors and their sycophants in corporate news organizations. Apple heavily works on protecting users against exploits too. It would be much harder to convince the public that an iPhone is for criminals so they're starting with open source.
Gaël Duval is the founder and president of the /e/ foundation along with the CEO of Murena. Duval and his organizations have consistently taken a stance against protecting users from exploits. In this video, he once again claims protecting against exploits is for only useful pedophiles and spies.
Translation to English:
> There's the attack surface, on that front we're not security specialists here, so I couldn't answer you precisely, but from the discussions I've had, it seems that everything we do reduces attack surface. However, we don't have a "hardened security" approach, we aren't developing a phone for pedo(censored) so they can evade justice. So there aren't difficult things to check if the memory is corrupted, really hardened security stuff that could clearly be useful for executives, in the secret service, or whatever. That's not our goal, our goal is to start from an observation: today our personal data is constantly being plundered and that wouldn't be legal in real life with the mail or the telephone, we want to change that. So we are making you a product that changes that by default for anyone.

Airplane Mode on GrapheneOS DISABLES ALL radios.
Remember though apps can and will hold data and schedule to send it when reenabled and a network connection has been established.
You must still maintain active permission and app choice hygiene.

Airplane mode doesn't disable all radios on all devices.
WiFi and Bluetooth can be re-enabled manually while airplane mode is active, and often are by default. GPS is passive (receive-only) and is never disabled by airplane mode. Cell tower location can still be cached.
Verify which radios your specific device silences before relying on it.

Why do I recommend using GrapheneOS' Security Preview Releases?

2026-10-01 or 2026-10-05 does not imply this issue is patched. It has been an optional patch since July 2026 but isn't mandatory until 2026-11-01. Most OEMs don't ship the security preview patches early despite being fully allowed to do so. That's how things work now though.
Anyone that had anything stored by or on the platform in regards to Binance and who didnt learn from FTX about what happens to what you dont hold doesn't get sympathy.
Not only that using it to trade or hodl as an investment asset perverting the transactional intent gets less.
See because of the memory/what they did to bring a character to life I made a point of tweeting about their passing.
I do wish people though would stop crediting the man with the quotes and positions espoused by the character. The writers deserve those.
Quote the man instead.

Yes GrapheneOS, like AOSP it is is based on IS a Linux Distribution.
Each OS on an Android device from OneUI, OxygenOS to PixelOS are Android Distros, all Android Distros are also mobile Linux Distros.
We're planning on shipping our port of 10th generation Pixels to Linux 6.18 in our next official release. We'll see how that goes with much broader testing in our Alpha and Beta channels. We'll finish the port for the earlier Pixels once that's done and then we'll get everything moved over to 6.18.
Public testing via our experimental releases has been ongoing for several days now. Only a single regression has been discovered so far which was DisplayPort alternate mode no longer working and it was quickly fixed and made available in a new experimental release. It's ready for Alpha testing soon.
