🇨🇦 This is so fantastic. A Kelowna, BC man just won a spot on the city council with a purposely uninspirational campaign strategy. He even made an attack ad...attacking himself! Check out his campaign website: bradythecreator.com/
A man from British Columbia who told voters he had no idea what he was doing won the city council election His campaign used messages like "Just trying to pay my rent" and "Let's see what happens?" 😂🇨🇦

Arriving into St Pancras does make you a bit proud. Eurostar train to the underground in about 5 minutes and unlike arriving into many airports the elegant building, bustle of the station and attractive public realm must give a great first impression of Britain.

“Our House” was released in November 1982 as the lead single from The Rise & Fall and became Madness' biggest international hit. It reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and, in 1983, became the band's biggest American success by reaching No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also won Best Pop Song at the 1983 Ivor Novello Awards. The Rise & Fall was not released in the United States at the time, instead, “Our House” was included on the American compilation Madness in 1983, helping introduce the band to a much wider US audience. The song grew out of Chas Smash's idea that the band members should write songs about their different family backgrounds. While the others did not pursue the idea, Smash turned his own experience of family life into a warm and nostalgic portrait of a busy working-class household.

Yet another London failure. I am a member of a group who advises people about what to do and where to go in London. A young American woman in the group had an appalling experience at the weekend. She went to the theatre to see a musical. Her friends wanted to go out afterwards but she preferred to go back to the hotel. She could not get a black cab and did not want to risk a minicab. So she took a rickshaw. You know the type: lit up like Blackpool illuminations and blaring out music. She thought they were licensed. They are not: the mayor has been talking about that for years but it won’t be in place until 2027. Anyway, just her and one “not English” guy cycling. As they came closer to the hotel she said they ended up in a really quiet alley. He stopped and suggested taking her photo using her phone. She refused. She did not want to hand over her phone and did not feel safe. They had quite an argument about it. She said she would just pay and walk the rest of the way. Then two other men appeared. Now she really was scared and offered the £30 agreed fare cash. The driver (and the two men) insisted that she pay by credit card. They started to say that she had to pay double if she paid in cash. At that point, a couple turned the corner and instantly the two men vanished, the driver took the £30 and she was left alone. If that couple had not turned up I don’t know what would have happened. She had a photo from inside the rickshaw and is submitting it to the police today but it is not easy to identify the driver. This is not the first time I have heard of such a scam. One tourist was told the fare came to £200 because it was “a tour” and not a ride to the restaurant. Despite it being no such thing. London scammers in plain sight.

The Yorkshire pudding was invented to catch fat. Its original name, in the first recipe ever printed, was the dripping pudding. That recipe appeared in 1737. A joint of mutton turned on a spit in front of the kitchen fire. As it roasted, the fat ran out of it and fell, hissing, into the hearth. It was the most valuable thing in the meal, and it was going up the chimney. So some northern cook slid a pan of pancake batter underneath. The fat dripped into it for the whole of the roasting. The batter fried from below and soaked from above, and rose into something crisp, hollow and rich. The recipe tells you to shake the pan now and then, so that it is "light and savoury". Ten years later a cookery writer called Hannah Glasse printed it again and gave it the name of the county it came from. It was served first, on its own, with gravy. That was the point. A family filled up on pudding, which was cheap, and the joint went further. The old rule at the table was that those who ate the most pudding got the most meat. So the nation's favourite side dish began as a device for making sure not one drop of animal fat was lost. It still only works properly one way. The tin has to be smoking with beef dripping before the batter goes in. Made with oil it comes out pale and tastes of cardboard. In 2008 the Royal Society of Chemistry solemnly ruled that a true Yorkshire pudding must stand at least four inches tall. Britain kept the pudding, built a standard for it, and threw away the dripping it was designed to save.

It's a weekend afternoon in the 70s or 80s. You're bored. So you finally give up and watch bowling on ABC with Chris Schenkel. Good decision.

No £80 replica shirts. No phones filming every second. No marketing telling you how special it all was. Nobody flying in from Singapore after paying £700 for a ticket. Just lads getting there hours early and queuing forever at the turnstiles. Cold hands, muddy terraces, and all that mattered was bagging your spot on the wall. Football when it was simple. 👏🏻👏🏻

Duckie spent the entire movie trying to get Andie to notice him. Then one beautiful blonde looks across the dance floor, gives him that look, and suddenly Duckie realizes he might be the luckiest guy at the prom. Can you name that actress?
