From @TheAthletic: The Kansas City Chiefs are the NFL franchise that provides cover for violent abusers, repeat offenders, and now, because they need someone to make a field goal, an unrepentant sleazeball, our columnist writes. It’s always the Chiefs. nyti.ms/4A4roRW

OK, I'm a fierce @BuffaloBills fans and I'm required to detest the @Chiefs. But they're 5-1. Pretty damn good record! Maybe you're being a little tough on them (never mind the Tucker signing)?
I love Andy Reid and am forever grateful for what he has done in Kansas City. But with that said all great things must come to an end. Mahomes has covered up a lot of issues that have gotten so big that they can’t be ignored anymore. I think it’s time for the Chiefs to part ways with Andy and to bring in someone new. Could that completely backfire? Absolutely. Could it also bring the spark that starts another special run? Absolutely. Now with all of this said do I think the Chiefs actually do this? Absolutely not. Andy will most likely be the Chiefs head coach until he decides to call it quits. And ultimately I’ll be okay with that because of what he has done.
So is the team for tolerating this.
Josh Jacobs is genuinely a piece of shit. Handcuff celebration after being arrested for literally beating his girlfriend is just the lowest of lows. Absolute scum who doesn't deserve to play another down in this league.

This is a disgraceful, offensive and insensitive take. You think a community where a plane came low enough to take out the Pentagon thinks it's a "treat" to have the president's plane fly that low?
Seeing the president’s plane was meant as a treat for those at the White House Halloween event. But for some outside the Executive Mansion, it was more of a scary trick when they looked up yesterday evening to see the underside of a 747 flying low and slow over DC. The video below is the view from across the Potomac in Virginia. The Washington Post reports that one big complaint from local officials is that they only got 15 minutes' notice about the flyover. The jet, of course, is known as Air Force One when the president is aboard. Flight tracking data showed the plane’s altitude was between 400 and 1000 feet. For reference, the Washington Monument is 555 feet 5 1/8 inches. There was a ground stop at nearby Reagan National Airport during the event. #WhiteHouse #flyover #aviation @ARLnowDOTcom @MidwestSafetyYT @HillaryHowardDC @NFTC_News @matthewyoung31 @MikeEmanuelFox @MacFarlaneNews @Acosta @dclinenews @tomsherwood

Kinda makes the Two Dan Sullivans pale in comparison, doesn't it?
A Republican women's group is behind a fake Texas transgender student union that sent text messages and brochures to as many as three million voters this month. The Republican Women’s Caucus Fund and someone named John Braun were identified as those responsible for the scheme that riled up voters just as early voting began, according to legal filings made public late Thursday. The identities were ordered to be revealed by a Travis County judge. bit.ly/48q1oVa

Still floored (and disgusted) that the NFL is in self-manufactured denial over the fact that 47% of NFL fans are female. And yeah, we care if teams reward domestic abusers and sexual assaulters. Or kickers who tell female college graduates their only real job is homemaking.

"All politics is local" used to be how incumbents won election and reelection and reelection. Still practiced by Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins.
An appropriately small example of how Susan Collins is campaigning: We're 8 days out and decides to pay a quiet visit to a a mobile home park that she helped get some $$ for wastewater treatment. No press, no public. Shakes some hands in downtown Camden, which is how we found out she was in town (resident texted us). And not surprisingly (she got them $1.3 million), the mobile home park residents were very happy to see her. midcoastvillager.com/news/co…

Maybe pollsters aren't reaching GOP or rural voters. But there's another bias - that we have gotten so used to razor-thin margins that people can't get their heads around a genuine, massive blowback to the status quo. People *do* respond to events, and put that above party.

The difference is there is no scandal in Nevada. Actually, there isn't one in Alaska, either.
The difference is that the New York Times, which has a lot of credibility with left of center audiences, treated Alaska as a huge scandal while totally ignoring it in Nevada.

Massive midterm con in the super-close Nevada gov race — GOP is propping up third-party spoiler candidate Danielle Ford to siphon votes from surging Dem candidate, @AaronDFordNV. They’re falsely implying she’s endorsed by AOC in mailers and Snapchat ads. thenevadaindependent.com/art…

Also this. Many, many people don't know families outside of their income bracket intimately and don't realize this is very much a norm for many parents trying to just make it. I also hate the idea of vilifying a Mom who was working. She wasn't partying. She was trying to make it with four kids.
Replying to @just_mindy
The crashout over this is so disproportionate. A 14-yr-old can take care of siblings. Overnights are a bigger ask, but if there is an adult checking in regularly, as there was, that mitigates risk. An accident happening on a 14-yr-old’s watch is not proof the situation was criminally dangerous just as an accident on a parent’s watch wouldn’t be, and a lot of parents would not survive that scrutiny. It is a giant thing to take children out of their home, in this case actually making them far more in danger by putting them with someone with a restraining order, oops. The “harm” you are attempting to avoid by removing them from the home should be severe to take that action, and even in the reach charges they’ve attempted on this woman, they don’t allege large harm. People’s imaginations and desire to judge turn this into a situation of grave danger when it simply wasn’t. Humans are bad at risk calculation and great at imposing their own risk calculations and anxiety on others (please see Covid). And even that would be okay if they didn’t demand that people with different risk calculations and life circumstances were criminalized (please see Covid). I also think a lot of people don’t know how many teenagers and medium-grade kids are left at home alone while parents have to work odd hours, which is weird, because most of the people reacting grew up in the latchkey era.

Via @steveschale Below is total turnout percentage by party through Wednesday of the last full week, 2022 to 2026 Democrats: 28.7% —> 38.6% NPA: 16.0% —> 22.1% Republicans: 32.6% —> 28.6% And this isn’t a function of a typical Dem problem – our Election Day voters voting earlier than usual, thus “cannibalizing” the Democratic electorate and making the early voting numbers look better. If anything, it’s the GOP this cycle that is cannibalizing its Election Day vote. Roughly 60K more 2022 Election Day Republicans have voted than Election Day Democrats.

This is such an elitist take it makes my blood boil. This mom did the best she could un her circumstances, and that 14 year old did everything right. We raise useless, entitled children in this country who don't know how to take care of themselves, and then we make them afraid to be responsible. Ridiculous.
No rational person would leave a 14YO in charge of a 12, 11 and 9YO for an entire business week with only a babysitter checking in on them 2x a day. The status of the kids (hygiene, what they were eating, the state of the house, etc) is going to be a huge factor in sentencing.

Be careful of this European-based account. It's model is producing data that is way, way too Republican. Let's look at Michigan. It claims that Dems have a 6,000 vote early vote lead. TargetEarly has it at 200,000+.
MICHIGAN 🗳️ Michigan has now banked 1,704,753 early votes, with Democrats holding a razor-thin 6,364 firewall (modelled). The modelled split sits around 49.2% D / 48.8% R — still essentially a coin flip, a hair firmer for Democrats than their 2024 share (49.08%). The D edge is up from 4,799 yesterday. Day-over-day added about 152k votes (≈85k mail, ≈67k in person), with in-person voting picking up. Michigan: party shares are modelled (no party registration) — official vote counts by party aren't known until election day.
