You can judge the soul of a civilization by how it designs its cities for people who cannot see them.
Have you ever noticed the raised yellow bumps on train platforms and crosswalks around the world? Many people assume a government agency invented them.
In reality, tactile paving was invented in 1965 by one Japanese man named Seiichi Miyake, who spent his own personal savings in Okayama to create concrete blocks with raised dots and bars because his close friend was losing his eyesight.
By 1967, the city of Okayama installed them outside a school for the blind, and within a decade, Japan National Railways made them standard across every station in the country.
Wait until you look at the top of a Japanese beverage can.
Because aluminum cans of beer, chuhai cocktails, and sparkling water feel identical inside a refrigerator or vending machine, Japanese breweries embossing tactile Braille characters reading Osake, meaning alcohol, directly onto the top metal rim beside the pull tab so visually impaired citizens never drink alcohol by mistake.

Badenoch has forgotten that Thatcher sold off the family silver, Cameron ruined public services with austerity, Johnson ruined the economy for a generation with his Brexit deal. Then he pissed £billions up the wall with dodgy Covid loans and PPE contracts.
Then we had Mad Lizzy!

My GP surgery just posted that the are incredibly short staffed due to high levels of staff sickness, meanwhile a relative was there last week and they were asked (by a GP) why they were wearing a mask. This country is a mess 😭

University of Hong Kong researchers analyzed 40 airplane outbreaks of COVID-19 and flu.
Infection risk was highest near infected passengers.
Models found N95 masks nearly eliminated transmission, while doubling ventilation alone was insufficient.

My GP surgery actually has a poster up, requesting patients to wear masks now.
But not a single member of staff were masked, so patients have no role model.
I was still the ONLY masked person in the whole building.
My appt was cancelled due to staff sickness, by the way.🙄

This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇
"For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly and failed to ask necessary questions. We owe our viewers an apology”

👏👏👏
Given COVID is a bigger risk, why aren’t you talking about that @YvetteCooperMP?
Why is eligibility for a COVID vaccine more restrictive than flu?
Also, why aren’t wearing masks recommended when getting your jabs….bearing in mind flu and COVID are airborne?

Interesting article. At UCL, we still don't have access to Pangram to check student work, which seems crazy.
'I recently reviewed 1,191 doctoral dissertations from 2025 in the fields of educational leadership and administration. My research suggests that 35 percent of those dissertations were made up of more than a negligible amount — i.e., greater than 10 percent — of AI-generated text. Ten percent were more than 50 percent AI-generated...
Before you protest — “AI-detectors are unreliable”; “they’re potentially biased against nonnative speakers”; “they can be tricked” — let me tell you that I used Pangram. It is not for nothing that Pangram has become the tool of choice for much of the internet, as a slew of peer-reviewed research has found that it achieves “near-zero” false-negative and false-positive rates, even against “adversarial” and “humanizing” AI software. I have used Pangram over the last year in my undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses and have found it (with additional safeguards and protocols) to be near-perfect in detecting students’ inappropriate use of AI in their writing. My ongoing study used 100 dissertations published before 2020 as a control; all came out as “100 percent Human” in Pangram.'
