I have been exploring other worlds for writing outside of PPT as of late, and my recent one holds a new strong place in my heart! Please allow me to introduce you all to my Animal Hospital AU! #animalhospital #animalhospitalau -------- Equality AU -------- In this AU, Anomalies aren't brought about by the experiments of Animal Hospital, instead, they are a natural born species in the world alongside the Anthropomorpheans (Non-Anomaly Animals). Alongside their natural capabilities to shapeshift their forms, born with greater physical strength, stamina, and durability, anomalies also stop aging at 45, and cannot die from getting older since their cells never begin to die off (which is why they are called Anomalies by the public; they can, however, still die due to natural means like sickness or injury). The drawback for Anomalies in this AU is the lack they have very low birth rates, meaning while they might be viewed as an ideal apex predator on the 'food chain', they are a minority in the world, where Anthropomorpheans are the majority. This has caused an immense social imbalance in the world, and while the world is much more civilized, where there are even a few politicians whom are Anomalies in office. There is a bit of unrest due to the culture Anomalies still hold from ancient times, where might makes right as the 'common' way of thinking amongst them, where Anomalies hold control of territories and clans, causing conflicts over such areas that can easily turn from casual conversation to an all out brawl where even bypassers can get dragged into the mess. These 'clan wars', and the Underworld side of the city, where the common people are often targeted for extortions by the clans (as an actual protection contract, which is honored, but still-). This has lead to quite the negative public view on the Anomalies, giving the public a 'all Anomalies are dangerous and violent' mentality. This actively causes friction in communities, with some Anthropomorpheans even treating others of their kind who sympathize with them as also dangerous due to their progressive way of thinking. (Which makes romance drama so interesting to write for this AU) In the current present world, following the characters we know and play as, Animal Corporation, the mega corporation that owns the city the game current takes place in, also called Safara City. The corporation's current agenda is to bring equality to the world through the introduction of the anomaly gene to ordinary citizens. It has also been proven that Anomalies and the normal animals can cross breed, as the hybrids within the world are living examples of the co-existence Animal Corp. seeks to bring about (Dr.Harlow, Intern, Harlow's son, Agent, and Agent Rabbitfoot). However, their method of attempting to bring about equality is through direct genetic experimentation due to the world reaching a very tense build up of issues that begin to arise from the general public. And so they are 'forced' to take a more underhanded approach to this problem needing solving. The CEO of the company has accepted he would be demonized and hated across the world by many people, but accepts the 'evil' he is doing for the greater good, while avoiding complete corruption by ensuring no child experiments, kidnapping, and forced experimentation. Rather, the company own an orphanage where children are raised, and then offered a job in Animal Corp. As for the general public, they request assistance with 'off the books' experimentation with cash offer up front. That is how they began the operation, and how Dr.Harlow ended up being wrapped up in the story. Dr.Harlow, as stated earlier, is a Hybrid Anomaly, who endured a rather rough childhood, watching his parents struggle with society, due to how 'strange' their coupling was. While Anomalies do not care whom you take as a mate, the normal animals certainly did. Harlow had to watch his parents struggle to give him proper doctor appoints most of the time due to his mixed blood and the lack of doctors who were specialized in a rare case such as his. And so he dedicated himself to the medical practice to ensure his people and those like his parents had someone to turn to when they were in need. This eventually lead him to meeting his wife, a up and coming nurse whom he went to medical school with that had an open mind. As you can imagine, Harlow's story follows his canon one a bit, where they get married, have a child, and live a happy life for a time. However, Anthro-Extremists caught wind of what Dr.Harlow actually was and were disgusted their children were being treated by 'a monsterous anomaly', so his house was burned down. He was chased out of the town he took up his medical practice in, and lost his wife in the fire. Though he saved his son just in time, whom was rescued by their mother right before the fire took them both. Harlow was gravely injured, but Animal Corporation had Agents surveying him for quite a bit of time at that point, and offered him a deal, one that would save his life, help his child live a better life, and aid in their own agenda with his brillant mind and medical specializations with both Anthro-Blood and Anomaly-DNA. Fifteen Years pass after that point, leading us up to the present time once more, where Dr.Harlow runs Animal Hospital at the age of 45, the magic number for men such as himself, as his aging has begun to greatly slow down now, thanks to his hybrid blood. Whether or not Hybrids can die from aging is actually unknown currently in the lore of my AU, as I'm keeping that a secret for now. Alongside Dr.Harlow, his own flesh and blood, Vincent Harlow, has taken up the 'family profession', acting as the Doctor-in-training within the building. Dr.Harlow has discovered the means to cause a slow genetic conversion within subjects, but it leads to unstable outcomes a lot fo the times, with no clear successful cases as of yet. The only 'semi-successful' cases of conversion is Rattina, who gained the powers of a Shadow Anomaly. However, the most common occurrence during the 'treatment' is the Anomaly DNA beginning to overpower the Anthroporphean DNA due to it's strength, causing the unstable forms we see in game that require additional treatments to stabilize more. The next major character of the story is Barny Barlow. In this AU, much like the original timeline, Barny is a full blooded anomaly at the age of fifty, and is the Boss of the entire Safara City due to not only uniting the larger Anomaly clans under his own clan's name, the Barlow Family, but also by ensuring the smaller, younger clans of Anomalies do not step to far out of line with their 'fancy new powers' that are beginning to awaken. Barny can be described as we see him in game. He is a polite man on the surface, old school, and rather straight to the point when it comes to business. The reason he appears in Animal Hospital, much like when we see him in game, is actually him coming to the Hospital to pick up his 'protection' fee Animal Corporation personally pays him under the table to keep the city's Underworld in check for their business ventures. And he 'asks' for coffee in the lobby to be polite, but he's actually ordering one each time he visits as a means to show his power. A means of showing he was in the room and was given what he wanted when he 'asked' for it. The third main character is the intern, Internado Russel. He is the newest member of the Hospital staff, introduced to it by Animal Corporation as their 'model experimental subject'. Internado is the first 'stabilizing' case for the genetic alteration, and is being put to work in order to learn how to reintegrate into normal life by resisting the more darker urges his mind attempts to put forth, due to the violent primitive coding in Anomaly dna that actual Anomalies have learned to live with, adapt, and even curb for the sake of living civilized lives. He is a victim of of one of the Anomaly Clan wars, having lost his family to a battle that became incredibly bloody, nearly losing his life to a fallen building. He was personally saved by Richard Harlow (Dr.Harlow), since he could relate to the tragedy unfolding in front of him. Agent, secretly known as Felix Redgrave, is Internado's Animal Corporation assigned 'handler', due to Internado's genetic instabilities. With Internado being the 'beta test' of the most recent and refine Fusion Serum, the company wants to ensure one of their best is present in Animal Hospital, while also having someone keeping an eye on the progress of the Hospital. ------- That is it for now! Please check out the actual game and it's lore sometime! #MassEffect #MassEffectAU #SaveMassEffect #Femshep #Maleshep ------ Mass Effect: Sci-Fi & Deities AU ------ An AU that follows the plot of the first three games, however, they are some great key differences between the original world and this one! ------ The Mass Effect Pantheon ------ Within the universe of Sci-Fi & Gods, Divine beings are born from the collected conscious and sub-conscious will of civilization when the species reaches the point of higher thinking, their power evolving alongside the natural evolution of their people. The more advanced the evolution, the greater the Deity becomes in power, influence across the stars, and in intelligence. The Deities of this universe then guide their people toward their ideal world, while enforcing their own philosophy upon them in the form of Religion. Eventually, when the time is right, these divine beings guide their people towards the people of another, to create bridges of alliances to eventually creating a galactic community by democracy, compromise, or tyranny depending on the events that occur. These divine beings appear in the form of the species they belong to, with their garbs, genders, frequencies of their interactions with their races being solely created by how the people perceive them in majority, as well as taking a name related to the planet's own. (An example of this would be the following: The Turian Deity of Palavan is named Palavos) The means of commune with each Deity is different depending on the culture, ranging from temple worship, to military-esque planned meetings, to Battle Festivals to honor their names. With the greatest honor bestowed upon a member of the race is to become one of the 'Blessed Chosen' (Chosen or Blessed for short). Blessed Chosen are granted abilities that range from becoming a super solider to having one's brain become as advanced as a super computer, bending the rules of their reality, but the powers granted vary. The more advanced the Deity, the greater the strength of those whom have been blessed by them, with the powers complimenting what the person was already refined and capable of. One of the rules established by the Mass Effect Pantheon boils down to diminishing returns, for the more Chosen there are amongst the species, the weaker the blessings will be. This was to keep powers gifted in check in the name of balance and order amongst the Galaxy. Those whom gain the title Blessed Chosen become the arbiters of their people, capable of speaking with their deity whenever they desire to bring the will of their divine patron to the people or to empower their military forces. By ME1, the Council Members who sit on the Citadel Council are always those who are amongst the 'Blessed Chosen', acting as the voice of their people and their deities to the vaster galactic community. Attempting to hold Democracy as they do in the original timeline of Mass Effect. ----- Isabella & Jason Shepard, The Shepard Siblings ----- Another divergence from the original timeline is the main character's family tree. While Isabella Shepard (Femshep) is the main character of the series, her brother, Jason is a secondary protagonist whom's adventures cross with his older sister's at times, even joining the Normandy Crew in ME1 & ME3 (ME3 as part of his own DLC story line, resulting in his unlock). Where Isabel is an incredibly powerful Adept (Biotic User), Jason acts as the other side of the coin, being an incredibly powerful Engineer (Tech User), with the Siblings being viewed as mirrors to one another in terms of the talent they wield with their skills and their morale stances (Both being variance of a Paragon, while both being space born). Isabella Shepard is the very chaotic, comical, furiously loyal, and galaxy-saving Paragade who knows when the humor needs to be put away, and the serious military women needs to come out to get the job done properly. She is very protective of not just her Family, her Crew, but of innocent civilians. She will always do what she can to bring everyone home if she can, even if it costs her a lot physically in the long run, pushing herself immensely at times. Wrex has commented that he is reminded of a Female Krogan protecting her family when it comes to Isabella, except it seemed like that protection applied to everyone whom needed her! Isabella's canon romance (and the only man she will ever love to such a passionate extent) is Garrus Vakarian, their romance starting all the way back in the ME1 era of the story. Jason Shepard is a bit different from Isabella when it comes to his personality. While he shares her passionate drive to look out for those around him, he is much more quieter about it. Selectively mute, yet kind hearted, and very intelligent, Jason is the calm eye to Isabella's chaotic storm, he is a pure Paragon with a bit of a Neutral streak when it comes to dealing with the darker parts of society, preferring to take the backseat when it comes to making choices, unless they are morally questionable or considerably grey. He is considered the Normandy Crew's 'Little Brother' figure, and is an Honorary Quarian due to his close ties with the Quarian people. Liara T'soni has describes Jason as a 'precious, gentle and quiet presence'. He ever wears a suit similar to male Quarian, along with an LED mask that makes digital facial expressions for him. Only Isabella has seen his true face by the point of ME1, till Jason begins to connect with the crew and others more. ------- More coming soon!
