CITY POWER UNCOVERS ILLEGAL ELECTRICITY CONNECTIONS IN INNER CITY CRACKDOWN City Power uncovered multiple illegal electricity connections during an operation targeting five properties in Marshalltown, Doornfontein, Bertrams and Jeppestown today. The operation exposed properties that continued receiving electricity despite previous disconnections, with some illegally sourcing power from neighbouring buildings to evade enforcement. Outstanding electricity debt included approximately R445,000 in Doornfontein, R171,000 in Bertrams and R478,000 at a panel-beating business in Sherwell Street, Doornfontein. Other properties were also found to be illegally connected or receiving unauthorised electricity supplies. City Power effected Level 2 and Level 3 disconnections at the affected properties. Acting CEO Charles Tlouane warned property owners against illegally supplying electricity to neighbouring buildings, saying such arrangements facilitate electricity theft, undermine enforcement and pose risks to the electricity network. City Power says it will intensify operations against illegal connections, electricity theft and the unauthorised distribution of electricity, particularly in hijacked and non-compliant buildings. Customers with outstanding debt are urged to arrange payment agreements with City Power rather than resort to illegal connections. -Report illegal electricity connections: 0800 202 925. @CityPowerJhb

The global economy remains resilient, but that resilience is becoming more fragile and more uneven. Growth is projected at 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027, while inflation is expected to reach 4.7%, driven largely by higher energy and food prices. I’m hopeful that as we build more plants like this one, we can bring affordable, reliable, clean electricity to more people.

From @TheAthletic: If the NFL truly acted in the best interest of Jalen Hurts, one of its most decorated and well-known players, an investigation should substantiate that, our columnist writes. The league and the Eagles should have nothing to hide. nyti.ms/4BiyGCX
