Xmas coming early🥳: Really excited to publish a paper in the Journal of Econometrics w @FelixPretis & Xiyu Jiao!
Here's a short 🧵 about what we do - and how we show the effects of outliers when estimating damages from climate change.

Missed the webinar: Cutting emissions - What policies work? Watch the recording - @StarkClimate comments on @MoritzPSchwarz & Ebba Mark paper highlighting that a lot was already achieved in the UK power sector through a mixture of policies.

📢New paper in PNAS!
How rich was Vienna at the time of Mozart or Tuscany at the time of Michelangelo? Historical GDPs per capita are scarce, leaving this unanswered.
Here, we provide new estimates using machine learning to augment historical GDPs per capita. /1 🧵

Wait for it... Storm Boris unleashed historic amounts of rain in Lower Austria, causing major flooding. St. Pölten received over 400 mm of rain in just 5 days, making this september the wettest month ever recorded at this location.
Just unreal.

How did the UK decarbonise its electricity system.
My favorite chart of our recent @ScienceMagazine paper. Key message: Carbon pricing is important to reduce emissions, but many times it is not doing the job alone.
A few days ago, we published an article in @ScienceMagazine. Time for a short post about it.
We tried to contribute to an important debate: How well are we actually reducing our carbon emissions?

Lastly, a big thanks to the great team and the institutions that were involved - both in the research & the fantastic comms efforts!!
@PIK_Climate and @MCC_Berlin
@INETOxford, @TUBerlin
And also a huge thanks to @Einstein_Berlin for making my research possible.

As always, @AukeHoekstra is the person actually looking at the details...
Hugely interesting thread!
Someone just alerted me to this @guardian article from January about a *big 5 yearly UN report!* on material extraction.
The @guardian singles out cobalt and electric vehicles.
But look at this graph from the report!
WTF is going on here?
I must do a 🧵
