This is such an important point. Rape is a bonding activity that is relevant to networks years later

If a session at an edu event was aimed at a specific phase eg primary, & the session was specifically about that phase’s classroom practice & how to teach well in that exact phase, I would def expect the session to be led by an experienced expert in the teaching of that phase.

One conclusion from my travels - UK, US, Canada, Australia - is that our global profession remains deeply scarred by decades of poor accountability-driven scrutiny dominated by delusional 'teacher evaluation' processes. The default teacher position is to be sceptical and resistant to observation processes and often PD itself. 'Just leave me alone' is a common starting point.
It's requires a massive effort to build momentum around sustained PD and feedback cycles that people trust, opening themselves up enough to explore habit change.. Where it's happening it's magnificent; it feels like a triumph - but it also feels precarious; it doesn't take much to knock people off course. We're paying the price for all those years training up leaders to adopt the role of compliance checkers and 'quality assurers' rather than being true leaders of learning and teacher development. Takes real focus and changes in attitude to create the cultures of PD teachers crave.

Given that ~80% of school policies relate to legal requirements, I believe the DfE should write and update them, and schools should only need to link to them on their websites. The constant writing, updating, checking, ratifying of policies is bonkers and massive workload issue.

The only school subjects that should start with capital letters are actual proper nouns (e.g. English, French), not common nouns (e.g. science, mathematics).
Roles in school also do not need capital letters (e.g. headteacher, deputy head), except when abbreviated (e.g. TA).

Keep politics out of music, like in the old days when Tchaikovsky wrote the 1812 Overture about how mild the weather was that year, or Beethoven composed his “Emperor” concerto to honour his new kitten, and Dylan sang A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall, all about splashing in puddles.

I lost my wife to cancer in August and sadly I have been left with huge debts. I am starting up my Facebook Haunted Hotels page daily for the next 5 weeks; I get a small commission from any bookings which will help enormously. Please help if you can.
