You know this map is bullshit because it shows the Sioux, Comanche, and Cheyenne occupying vast territories they only conquered after they learned how to ride the horses the Spanish brought from Europe.
An Alternate History of a World Where Europe Never Discovered America.

Some of the most feared and powerful Plains tribes were basically minor mountain or woodland farming peoples until they discovered how much more fun and rewarding it was to be horse nomads who terrorized their neighbors.

I'm partial to my own state California with the cool grizzly bear, but I think we can all agree that the redesigned Minnesota one is straight garbage-- the corporate memphis of state flags.
Which State has the best flag? Be honest.

My extreme minority opinion is that I like the Aykroyd parts of Ghostbusters that are kind of a straight occult adventure much more than the Bill Murray cool guy smirking that made the film such a huge hit.
These are my great-grandfather Dr. Sam Aykroyd’s transcripts from the Seances he hosted in the Old Farmhouse. It was the spirit of his work passed down through the generations that inspired my interests. He’s the original Ghostbuster.

Heart of the Beast continues to draw audiences week after week and will likely end its run as a modest theatrical hit before doing monster business on streaming. Nice work, @DavidAyerMovies
The trades called HEART OF THE BEAST a bomb on opening weekend. It’s at $155M and still running. Never let a Friday headline write a movie’s obituary.

LAFD Station 86 responded to a parent's worst nightmare: an unresponsive 3-year-old pulled from a Studio City pool. Arriving in 4 minutes, paramedics initiated advanced CPR. Within minutes, her heart beat again. Today, Keira and her family joined leadership to honor the crew.

Do people authentically dislike Tom King's writing or is it the usual thing that goes on here where people dislike him for political reasons and then search for aesthetic reasons to justify their opinions?

It’s actually quite touching that the emotional climax of a propaganda film is the bravery and self-sacrifice of Chinese soldiers being recognized and treated with respect by American Marines.
Korean war, really brutal. Many frozen. The salute was for the soldiers keeping their post while holding their line. Marine generals who still believed in honoring heroic soldiers even if they were enemy.

My take on the Nathan Fielder Elizabeth Holmes documentary is that a film that gets Generation Z to be more critical of the media they consume and aware the ways in which supposed documentaries can manipulate them is performing an enormous public service.

One of my favorite Richard Riehle roles, playing the stolen valor prison bus guard in The Fugitive. Such a perfect little scene, perfectly acted by everyone. youtube.com/watch?v=wMDr5wkz…

The scene is a satisfying payoff to a great little runner where the audience sees Riehle's guard be a chickenshit and leave the wounded guard to die. You think he's going to get away with taking credit for Kimble's heroism in saving him, then BOOM! It makes you love Gerard.

During the 1990s Internet boom, there was enough of old counterculture and bohemian San Francisco left for the techies to party with artists and weirdos and have some of that rub off on them (Burning Man is a remnant of this.) The current boom seems utterly sterile in comparison.
SF is not romantic because it is an over-optimized and rational place devoid of glamour and the “frivolity” of humanness. To be romantic with others you MUST have a romantic inner world. The essence of your 8 year old self choreographing dances in your bedroom then sewing a fit for your show in the living room for your parents type shi

Damn. Farewell to a quintessential "hey, it's that guy!" character actor who made every project he was in better through his presence.

A, so I could visit Petra, Beirut, and Aitou, my ancestral village in the Lebanese mountains.
You just won a 2-week, all-expenses-paid vacation. But there’s a catch: you have to stay within one region the whole time. What are you picking?

This was a throwaway song from a lesser Ridley Scott movie (listen for how he randomly works "black rain" into the lyrics) but I still love it. Iggy at his most Bowie-esque. youtube.com/watch?v=wfMfZv7-…

So apparently every horror franchise will have a prequel series where the story engine is "secret Cold War superweapon program." Gonna go pitch my "Dr. Loomis: The MK ULTRA Years" show now.

Joking aside, there was a Japanese monster movie called Frankenstein Conquers the World that had a fantastically creepy setup of the Frankenstein monster's heart being transported in a German U-Boat to 1945 Japan and getting nuked at Hiroshima...with predictable results.

My life hack for getting back into reading longer books is reading stuff from the 19th Century. Once you get used to the differences in language you will have a blast. I plowed through Grant's memoirs in two days and was enthralled the entire time.
I saw of video of Ethan Hawke lamenting how he's not reading half as much as he once did. This is a much deeper and darker pattern. Some of the most avid readers I know, lifelong readers, have basically stopped. They hate it and can't even explain it, the fire's just gone out

An underappreciated advantage of series television shooting in New York is the insanely high quality of the actors you can cast, even for tiny guest roles. Your crime witness or ND cop with two lines probably has a Tony nomination.
