JUST IN: Texas' newly elected governor has called for a pause on a potential deal that could give SpaceX $SPCX control of approximately 1,300 acres of public land surrounding its Starbase rocket launch facility. Governor-elect Gina Hinojosa announced today that she has asked the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to take no action on the proposed land transaction until she assumes office in January 2027. The property includes land around Boca Chica State Park, adjacent to SpaceX's Starship development and launch operations in South Texas. State officials had reportedly considered discussing the possible transfer behind closed doors at a November 5 meeting, although the item was subsequently removed from the agenda. SpaceX has steadily expanded its footprint around Starbase as it develops infrastructure for increasingly frequent Starship launches. Hinojosa, who defeated incumbent Governor Greg Abbott in Tuesday's election, previously criticized the prospect of transferring public parkland to SpaceX. No sale has been approved, and the governor-elect's request does not itself impose a legally binding halt on negotiations.
