I think he’s antisemitic. Period. And I think the antisemitic left and the mainstream Democratic Party are on a collision course.
Obama’s visit was an effort to paper over those differences and keep the party focused on beating MAGA. It isn’t working.
If you’re a “keep the party together and beat MAGA” person, you should be frustrated as hell at how EASY this SHOULD have been for AES. He didn’t even have to stop being antisemitic. He just needed to mollify folks for a few months, play nice in the sandbox, show a little grace and stop being an arrogant prick.
He couldn’t do it.
If you’re critical of Stevens here, I get that. She should’ve never endorsed him after the primary. Doing this at the 11th hour is bad form.
But you should also be massively critical of AES, who has run a poor campaign that didn’t address his core vulnerabilities, and instead took pride in pissing off important parts of his voting coalition.
He’s an arrogant jackass, to say the least.
And Rogers is a supine Trumpkin.
Yay. What a shitshow.

Bro, I’m locked in with my stance.
If dems will turn on Jewish voters, I know they don’t care about my black ass.
I voted in IL to maintain a firewall.
Lake county Indiana is also a firewall… if Nipsco can keep the lights on.

AEA, Stevens and McMorrow are awful — never seen anything like this in Democratic race for Senate.
If Whitmer or Buttigieg ran this shit show wouldn’t be happening.

It’s pretty insane how Abdul El-Sayed, Mehdi Hasan, and the rest of them are now just putting out the most sexist and vicious statements against Haley Stevens.

This week, a CNN host asked me why more American voters in this election are siding with Palestinians over Israelis. He seemed genuinely perplexed by this reversal of public opinion, pointing out that Hamas slaughtered so many innocent Israelis just three years ago.
The host is right that Hamas’s horrifying, inexcusable attack should have united the world against terror for much longer than it did. But I did my best to explain why public sentiment has shifted.
Since the horrors of October 7th, most of the death and destruction has been on the Palestinian side. And billions of people witnessed that horrifying reality on their smart phones every day — for two years.
You can certainly blame Hamas for starting the war. You definitely can blame Hamas for deliberately putting Palestinian civilians in harm’s way. But none of those arguments mitigates the emotional wallop of seeing the tragic devastation in Gaza, day after day. It’s overwhelming.
Powerful images always reshape public opinion. Think about George Floyd. The world was thrown into complete turmoil by ONE image of a white cop kneeling on a black man’s neck in 2020. People saw that one video — and they quickly changed their mind about the professionalism of the police and the prevalence of anti-black racism.
The images coming out of Gaza and now the West Bank have been exponentially more numerous (and massively more upsetting) than the video of George Floyd. The reality is that, under Bibi Netanyahu’s leadership, public sentiment on the Jewish state has soured globally. And the mixed results of last month’s Israeli election may ultimately leave his party in power. So I don’t expect the reality on the ground — or global opinion about it — to change any time soon.
Like many Americans, I strongly support self-determination and safety for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland. And I strongly support that same level of self-determination and safety for the Palestinians. We will get there only when we work harder to understand the fears, grief, pain and aspirations of people on all sides of this tragic divide.

This is bizarre behavior from an ostensible academic, tho not shocking in this case. Not sure what to do except to express disappointment that Brent continues to give in to social media dynamics, rather than act like a scholar. I edited her dissertation. Her claims are false.

From a longtime Stevens ally:
“The consensus among her friends, colleagues and staff is that there needs to be an intervention to save Haley from her fiancé because, if you ignore the politics and focus on the personal dynamics, you are watching in real time what happens when a kind and smart - but deeply insecure - woman falls under the influence of a toxic and controlling - and deeply insecure - man.”

I am a common-sense Dem
I am NOT a DSA supporter
I am an unapologetic Zionist Jew
I am a union member
I am attacked by some Ds bc I believe in bipartisanship & compromise
I am not endorsing Ds just bc they are Ds
BUT none of that means I would EVER endorse an R.

Everything happening in MI is Morris Katz fault, btw. He’s the one who is insistent on normalizing toxic masculinity within the party, cus he’s a bitch who buys into Republican talking points about Dems being soy.
That’s why Abdul and Platner ran the most toxic campaigns in Democratic history.

Fuck you.
You started that uncommitted and abandon Biden bullshit two years ago, right?
Well guess what? The script has been flipped.
Take several seats, Rashida!!!!
Michigan Democrats are feeling even better today about nominating @AbdulElSayed to fight for our working class families. Three days to go, let’s tune out this nonsense and turn out the vote.
Let's make sure Haley loses to Abdul twice.

CNN: Haley Stevens' mother says she voted for Rogers before endorsement
Rep. Haley Stevens’ mother, Maria Marcotte, said she supported Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers before her daughter endorsed him and denounced claims that anyone encouraged Stevens to support Rogers.
“Haley is her own woman. She always has been. Suggesting a man made her decision for her is insulting to her, and it is insulting to me as her mother,” Marcotte said in a statement to CNN. Stevens’ fiancé, Jason Turkish, previously endorsed Rogers.
“I voted for Mike Rogers before Haley said a word, and so did many people who love her. We watched what she went through this year. Haley wasn’t even engaged when she was screamed off her own convention stage. It was Haley who was chased out of a park and called a Zionist pig. It was Haley who was told not to come to church,” she said.

It’s a growing list of Democrats who won’t endorse or vote for Abdul El Sayed. If you don’t understand this but you understand the January 6th witnesses and Liz Cheney, you might just be loyal to the team no matter what the team stands for.
I’ve seen many declarations that Haley Stevens imploded her career. Now imagine why she would be willing to do that to see AES not win this seat.

I do agree with this. If I lived in Michigan, no way would I support El-Sayed. But no way would I support Mike Rogers either.
