There's a lot of pressure on mums to lose weight after having a baby, and that pressure often increases in the New Year, especially with the influence of social media. Your body has done an amazing job of growing and nurturing your child - so please be kind to yourself 💜 If you’d like to lose weight for health reasons, this is completely understandable. But if you're breastfeeding, keep in mind that you are burning extra calories every day, and you need a balanced diet to give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs. Weight-loss medication has been in the media for a while now. This should not be used if you are breastfeeding. If you are not breastfeeding, this should only be prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional, like your GP. The @MHRAgovuk states that these medicines are “licensed to treat specific medical disorders and should not be used if you are not overweight or diabetic or want to lose weight for aesthetic or cosmetic purposes”. MHRA guidance published in June 2025 also states that these "medicines should not be taken by people who are breastfeeding. This is because there is not enough safety data to know whether taking a GLP-1 medicine can cause harm to the baby." Read more about this in our Diabetes and Breastfeeding factsheet: breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/… If you've recently given birth, please wait until you've been given the all clear by your GP, health visitor or midwife before you start exercising. You should also talk to your GP before you make any major changes to your diet, especially if you've recently given birth and/or are breastfeeding. If you have any questions about medication and breastfeeding, please contact our Drugs in Breastmilk Service at [email protected]. If you want to talk about your breastfeeding journey, please contact our @NBHelpline - 24/7. ✨Please share✨

We often talk about responsive feeding when establishing breastfeeding, building milk supply, and making sure your baby is getting enough milk. But it is also possible when feeding your baby with a bottle, or mixed feeding - whether you're expressing or feeding infant formula. You don't need a specific feeding schedule. Instead, it's good to look for feeding cues from your baby and to feed them when they're hungry. Early signs of hunger include: ✨rooting ✨moving their eyes or head from side to side ✨wriggling ✨waving or sucking fists ✨making murmuring noises You can find more information on responsive breastfeeding and infant feeding on @BfN_UK website under 'Feeding Information'. breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/… If you want to talk about feeding cues or anything else infant feeding-related, we're here for you - 24/7 💜 📞 0300 100 0212 💌 send us a DM (Facebook and Instagram only) Provided by The Breastfeeding Network, with @assocbfmothers

Following recent news about an infant formula recall, we want to assure parents that it is safe for them to switch to another brand. There is no evidence that switching formulas does any harm. If you are using a specialised formula, please speak to your health professional about a suitable alternative. If you’re concerned that the formula you’re currently using may be affected, please check the Food Standards Agency (@foodgov) website for the most up-to-date recall information. food.gov.uk/news-alerts/aler… If you need infant feeding support, please contact our @NBHelpline on 0300 100 0212 - 24/7.
