Gene Callahan has created a nice site for By the Sweat of Your Brow: The Concept of Work in the History of European Philosophy, which he edited and to which I contributed a chapter on Kierkegaard. gcallah.github.io/work/index…

This is Lucy. Born in December. Not because of luck. Because of a choice. She doesn't have to become a patient before she becomes a person. She just gets to be a kid. For 300,000 years, every parent handed their child a genetic hand they’d never seen. That era is over. We are the first life form to read its own source code and select the next generation. Soon this will be the default way we have babies. I want to end the genetic lottery and let every family make their own luck. All of human history, we rolled the dice. We don’t have to anymore.

Nebraska Senate candidate Dan Osborn in 2024: “I support anti-discrimination legislation like the equality act” Dan Osborn on the Equality Act now: “I don’t know what that is.” thedispatch.com/article/dan-…
Congressional Democrats unanimously support the Equality Act, which explicitly states: “(with respect to gender identity) an individual shall not be denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity.” The Discourse lately seems to suggest Kamala Harris lost in part because she took a particularly extreme position on transgender issues. But she was articulating a principle her party almost unanimously embraced for a decade.

There's an inevitable pull for people who start off wanting to be rid of the U.S. alliance with Israel to end up minimizing the scale & depth of the animus & threat of Islamism towards Western civilization.

Every time you think “could the sports betting industry possibly be more cartoonishly awful, rapacious, and deleterious to the common good?” and the sportsbooks always jump in from the top rope shouting a hearty “You bet!!!”

Just as the dismissal of male and female as essential human attributes enabled the sudden assault of gender ideology, so too did the deconstruction of marriage make legal recognition of polyamory a plausible next step. Without the male/female dyad, what makes monogamy so special?

I have increasingly less tolerance for this kind of nonsense, especially when it comes to my children aged two to six. Encouraging or allowing a child to have a “gender identity” is child abuse. There’s absolutely no place for this kind of thing on official DC health forms (which should be fact and science based!!!).

With all due respect to Catholic friends, the statement below is a challenge to its own moral tradition. They dispute this, of course, with a bunch of defenses that strain credulity. It is important to keep stating the obvious: Different Popes make competing statements on the morality of capital punishment. The view expressed below is not the historic position held in the Catholic tradition. And since it is October, it is also an occasion to remind that Scripture is the ultimate authority in matters such as this, not the vacillating opinions of individual Popes.
The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

By my estimation, 18,000+ women will face serious adverse events related to mifepristone abortions during the 3+ months between when @FDA has its mifepristone safety study results in mid-December and when it publishes its final report in March.
BREAKING: FDA responds to court-ordered deadline with claims it will complete its mifepristone safety review in March 2027. That’s 2+ years after HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former FDA Commissioner Marty Makary first pledged to “study the safety” of abortion pills.
