I finally watched Christopher Nolan's Odyssey movie with my wife a couple of weeks ago.
We saw it on a "Megascreen" to get the maximum visual effect.
I love this genre. Greek, Roman, Norse, Ancient history / mythology with a military or adventure theme. I am the demographic for this kind of movie.
It is a good movie.
Is it the best movie ever?
Not even close. It's not in the top 10, 20, or 100. It should have been.
Is it the best movie of the year?
No
Is it as good as say Gladiator or Master And Commander?
Nope.
Yes, I will watch it again, but over and over like other great movies in this genre; Nope.
I think context is important. The Odyssey along with the story of Christ is the greatest story in the history of the world. It is the genesis for all western story telling.
The story of the Odyssey and the Trojan War are where the word EPIC comes from.
This is far from an Epic move.
The controversial casting was trivial and simple marketing bullshit.
The Helen character has less than 3 minutes screen time in the movie. Ellen Page who plays a boy who gets killed is pretty much what a woman pretending to be a man is qualified to play.
It is visually stunning like all Nolan movies are. It is a good movie. Very watchable and fun.
That is what Christopher Nolan did with the genesis of all western storytelling.
Old media getting fact checked and proven to be liars in real time.
If there ever was a profession of journalism it was killed a long time ago.
The professors, journalists, editors and publishers who sold their souls for their activisit causes and political hackery are the murederers.

43 years ago, Hezbollah terrorists attacked U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, and killed 241 Americans. We will never forget their sacrifice. 🇺🇸
The attack was directed, financed and ordered by the same evil Iranian regime that President Trump is fighting today.
I don't believe this is real, but it is fun.
My coworker spent one year in Tennessee.
He came back to Tokyo two months ago.
He is not the same man.
He says "y'all" in meetings. To our boss.
He holds the door for the entire floor. Twelve people. Every morning.
He asked the convenience store clerk how her day was going. She had to sit down.
He calls every man "bud." Including the CEO.
He refuses to describe anything under three hours away as "far."
He waves at drivers who let him cross. One driver waved back and almost hit a pole.
Last week, he told a junior employee, "I'm proud of you."
She went to the restroom and cried for ten minutes.
We thought it would wear off.
It didn't. It's spreading.
Three people in accounting now say "y'all."
The junior employee holds the door.
The convenience store clerk asks HIM how his day is going.
Tennessee, I don't know what you did to him.
Please do it to the rest of us.
This seems like a big story.....
This morning, two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, surrendered on arrest warrants after being charged with lying to Congress about their roles on the Foreign Influence Task Force during the 2020 election. Floris and Benavides allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI’s Hunter Biden investigations, with one claiming they only learned about it from Wikipedia - despite evidence showing their involvement in helping shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop right before the election.
Lying to Congress by anyone strikes at the heart of our democratic system, but when senior FBI agents lie to Congress believing they are above the law, it’s time to bring the hammer of justice down on them. When senior officials entrusted with safeguarding our nation’s security choose deception over duty, they undermine the very institutions they swore to uphold.
Today’s action makes clear that no one is above the law, and we will hold accountable all who obstruct the truth.

I asked 30 Japanese 12-year-olds one question.
"What do you think of when you hear 'America'?"
(My nephew's teacher let me visit his class. I was not prepared.)
"Hamburgers the size of my head."
"Everything is big. Even the milk."
"Cowboys." Then a boy asked me, "Do cowboys still exist?"
I said yes.
The whole class cheered.
"They went to the moon."
I told them only Americans have ever walked on it.
The room went completely silent. Respect.
"The best baseball in the world. Even Ohtani had to go there."
"Superheroes. They all live in New York."
Then a quiet girl in the back raised her hand.
"My grandma says when the tsunami came, American soldiers came to help her town. She still has a photo with them on her fridge."
Nobody said anything for a while.
Then the teacher asked, "Who wants to go to America someday?"
Every hand went up.
Including the teacher's.

Nothing important is run on PHP or old software—except the water & electrical grid, a few government services like our missile defense systems and a handful of electrified fences at the zoo (for the lions, tigers and cobras).
Notice how committed @CatoInstitute is to illegal immigration.
They argue with a straight face that 28% of a suspected 20,000 non citizens voted in CA elections and that is no big deal......
@shipwreckedcrew correctly tears them to pieces.
You've got the numbers wrong. I'm not saying Lee is right -- he's not.
The 20,000 names are ACTUAL Green Card holders with California addresses with USCIS who match names and addresses with registered voters in California's publicly available voter registration list.
DOJ never said they all voted in the past. It only asked California to independently verify their eligibility to register because if they were Green Card holders they are ineligible.
It is not exculpatry to say, as LA County has said, "Only 28% have vote." That's actually a confession.
0000.00% should have voted if they are Green Card holders.
LA County conceded that 60 out of 200 have a voting history.
DOJ/DHS says those 60 are ineligible because they are not citizens.
Calif was ASKED to confirm, and if they can't confirm to set their ballots aside until confirmation of eligibility to vote is determined.
I go back and forth between whether your are a liar or just stupid.
The 20,000 are "High Confidence" determinations by DHS that they are not citizens.
There are tens of thousands more that are "Medium" or "Low" confidence that DOJ did not send.
And no one has even broached the subject of illegal aliens who registered when they obtained Driver's Licenses.
We should have moved to paper ballots years ago. Lots of other countries do this quickly with no problems.
There is only one reason to keep machines. That is to allow cheating and uncertainty.
If the AI bot swarms are in the banks, they’re likely already nested into voting machines, or will be very soon and will then work within the network to change votes. It’s a matter of when, not if this will happen. Elections should immediately be moved to ONLY paper ballots. Our $ and elections are at risk.

This needs to happen immediately.
Regime officials spared in the first war to keep negotiations alive may not survive the next, as the United States and Israel could wipe out entire layers of the Islamic Republic’s leadership.
Hamzeh Safavi, the son of former IRGC commander Yahya Rahim Safavi, warns that the next attack could expand from targeting roughly 40 senior officials to eliminating between 1,000 and 1,500 members of the regime.
He calls it the “lawnmower” strategy.
The objective would no longer be limited to removing the Islamic Republic’s highest commanders. The campaign could move systematically through the regime’s provincial IRGC commanders, intelligence officials, Basij leaders and other functionaries responsible for maintaining control across Iran.
Safavi considers this one of the most serious scenarios for the next phase of the war. Its purpose would be to paralyze the regime’s command structure and force it into absolute surrender.
This is not a confirmed American or Israeli plan. It is a warning from a regime-connected figure that reveals how vulnerable the Islamic Republic now believes its entire governing class has become.
Safavi admits that officials were caught off guard during the previous attacks. They did not believe the United States and Israel would locate and eliminate senior figures so quickly, freely and without hesitation.
The next phase he fears would scale that model dramatically.
Precision strikes could target officials as they move, meet and communicate. Cyber operations could disrupt command networks while simultaneous attacks on missile facilities and underground headquarters prevent surviving leaders from coordinating an effective response.
Safavi also warns that missile cities and command centres buried between 60 and 120 metres underground could be targeted. Such an operation would likely require American bunker-busting weapons, sustained intelligence coverage and continued air superiority over Iran.
The political calculation may also be changing.
Earlier in the conflict, some officials were reportedly spared because the United States needed interlocutors capable of negotiating. Figures such as Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Abbas Araghchi retained value as channels through which a ceasefire or settlement could be reached.
The “lawnmower” scenario assumes that restraint has ended.
Instead of preserving negotiators, the next campaign could dismantle the governing layer that allows the Islamic Republic to repress unrest, mobilize loyalists and rebuild military power after every round of strikes.
Eliminating 1,000–1,500 officials would be vastly more difficult than targeting several dozen senior leaders. The regime can disperse personnel, restrict communications, move officials underground and rapidly appoint replacements. Such an operation would also risk civilian casualties, retaliation and institutional fragmentation rather than an orderly surrender.
But Safavi’s warning exposes the deeper crisis.
The Islamic Republic built its deterrence around the assumption that its leaders, underground facilities and security hierarchy were beyond the enemy’s reach. The previous war shattered that assumption.
Regime insiders are no longer debating whether senior officials can be reached. They are warning that the next campaign could move from leadership decapitation to the systematic destruction of the regime’s entire command structure.
The Islamic Republic spent decades threatening to destroy its enemies. Its own elite is now discussing how much of the regime may survive the next attack.

This seems like a great bill Congress could have tried to pass. Streamlining environmental regulations and permitting and lawsuits for these oil refineries to be built to alleviate gas prices and energy emergencies.
If only the GOP Congress was doing its job.
Imagine Democrats railing against this on the news for months on how they don't want any oil refineries built to increase gas and Diesel capacity in the us.
Trump should direct the DOE to build six oil refineries on U.S. Govt property, with around the clock construction schedules, and waive all permitting requirements.
They should be built regionally around the country so they can provide a supply of gasoline and diesel into the economy.
If private industry cannot meet the need, then the gasoline production industry needs to be treated no differently than other public utilities.
