Tibo took the result of your first shader from zero and made a refined version to show what an experienced artist can achieve by building upon the free course's result.
Uses an extra technique: conversion to polar coordinates. With just a couple lines of code you can make impressive circular effects.

We made a free shader intro series, Your First Shader from ZERO in Godot 4:
gdquest.com/library/first_sh…
You will create an animated portal step by step and learn how to draw procedural shapes, create masks, use smoothstep() to control transitions, draw gradients, animate, and more. All techniques you will reuse both in 2D and 3D games.
If you find it helpful, please share it! It could help someone you know.
The free intro to shaders guide we're working on for @godotengine is shaping up well. It's chunky, it should amount to about 1/5th of a book in size.
It'll be more accessible than the Book of Shaders, with all the techniques covered (masking, warping, procedural shapes, etc.) being common building blocks directly applicable to many game shaders and VFX.
Really cool tool for Blender users: pixel art texture painting directly within Blender.
Imagine Aseprite or another #pixelart program IN Blender?
Pixel Perfect Pixel Art texture painting on top of the model in the 3D viewport and in 2D.
Drawing, painting, selection tools, layers, texel density (pixel size) setup and density zones (multiple pixel sizes). #blender3d
My teammate @CashewOldDew made this interactive shader preview for our upcoming free lesson to get started with shaders from zero in the Godot game engine. Coming soon!
In the meantime we released some cool shader guides with techniques that apply to all sorts of shaders like gdquest.com/library/control_…
A good example of some of the things you can do with built-in UI features.
Godot's UI system is really complex as it's built to support apps like the Godot editor itself, right-to-left languages, etc. so you have to learn to use the right subset of it for your games. But especially now since the latest version it's really cool for animated UIs like that.
Little tip: By default, the drawing of Godot UI snaps to pixels which gives the editor its crisp lines. This can cause some jerkiness when animating moving UI nodes around.
When you're going to animate them like this, be sure to turn off pixel snapping for Godot UI nodes in the project settings:
- Go to Project -> Project Settings...
- Turn off GUI -> Common -> Snap Controls to Pixels
Alternatively be sure to exclusively use the new Offset Transform feature introduced in Godot 4.7 to animate visuals. See this video by @mreliptik for a nice rundown: youtube.com/watch?v=pK2vI2-j…
Your buttons deserve more than boring static text
Let it be bold, rainbow, wavy, shaky… whatever your UI needs ✨
Remember: Standard UI is optional and default controls are not a design system. Stop letting them design your UI for you.

I'm looking to build a collection of textbooks to study and practice fundamentals and study at night.
I've taken the course by @cmuratori, Computer Enhance which is invaluable and I recommend to every programmer (link: computerenhance.com/p/table-…). But work involves a lot of screen time already and I'm looking for physical books, and in particular, books I can keep coming back to.
I already have Game Engine Architecture on @raysan5's recommendation.
The goal is just to generally improve at programming. I'd really appreciate feedback from experienced programmers on which are particularly valuable to study and practice. Here's my current shortlist:
On how computers and code work:
- Code by Charles Petzold
- Computer organization and design: the hardware/software interface
- Nand2tetris
- Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces
Algorithms and programming practice:
- The art of computer programming
Networking:
- Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach
- TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1: The Protocols
Over the past couple of months, we've rewritten Learn GDScript From Zero in Godot 4, fixing many issues along the way. We also improved the lessons and exercises based on your feedback and bug reports from the issue tracker, Reddit, and other communities.
This new version is more reliable than the old one, but before we release it to everyone, we need people to test it on many different computers.
Please help us test the beta release! gdquest.github.io/learn-gdsc…
If you face any issues or have feedback you'd like to share, whether it's on the content, bugs, anything, you can share it from within the app.

We've been cooking!
Our goal was to bring what's fun about survivor-likes to people who don't like or play survivor-likes.
It's a survivor*lite*.
We got a playtest live right now on Steam, let me know if we succeeded :D

New release of the GDScript code formatter for #godotengine: complete rewrite, 10x+ faster, much improved formatting with now automatic line wrapping.
With new features you asked:
- Team configuration support through editorconfig files
- Disabling formatting on code regions
- Options like 1 empty line between functions instead of 2, max line length
- Support for non-latin languages
Fixed 100% of known issues too.

Ricard, CEO and lead @epictellers, was kind enough to run me through the code architecture of Starfinder: Afterlight.
He showed me how, based on his experience working with large teams, he structures this @godotengine game to work productively as a team of 30. We compiled the most important bits for you in a short guide: gdquest.com/library/modular_…
It's a game to keep an eye on, massive RPG: store.steampowered.com/app/3…
I was surprised it was all written in GDScript, including a sizable suite of strict tests that run on every change to check each dev followed a set of guidelines, to measure performance and memory regressions, etc.
The discussions about AI between @cmuratori and @DemetriSpanos are always insightful in ways that's really hard to find out there.
I'm always impressed by the clarity of their ideas and arguments, and their ability to explore the discussions' complex ramifications in a way that remains easy to follow along.
I recommend listening to every episode to anyone who wants to think more deeply about everything that's happening (way too fast) with AI. It's a lot more nuanced and well-thought-out than most discussion out there, and distills insights that are otherwise fragmented and scattered across the web.
New episode of Wading Through AI is out! @DemetriSpanos and I discuss the recent trend of open source projects restricting the use of AI and/or going closed altogether: computerenhance.com/p/will-a…
