Tariffs were supposed to shrink the trade deficit. But instead, the deficit was 8% larger over the last 20 months than the 20 months prior. And American consumers are paying higher prices.

we predicted in December of last year that 2026 would be the lowest year for gas prices since 2020, nothing was needed. but then March 1, the situation changed drastically and it could be the most expensive year for gas prices ever.
Inflation milestone that looked very unlikely in January: The average price of gas is now higher during Trump 2.0 than under Biden. The gap is very narrow but before the Iran war, few thought they'd even be in the same ballpark. More with @JohnBerman on @NewsCentralCNN

MAGA in a nutshell: Don't like election results, send in the Marines. It will be glorious to see these people lose the midterms. Enough is enough.
The United States Military should remove Lula from power.

Lula won by 4.4 million votes. The number of votes cast after the polls reopened was under 36,000. Anyone who tells you that this is why Lulu won or that it delegitimizes the outcome is pushing a completely fake narrative.

U.S. election interference in Brazil: "During the October 2026 election, President Lula’s campaign formally submitted a dossier of incidents to Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) accusing Meta of systemic interference and algorithmic bias favoring Flávio Bolsonaro. Lula’s campaign spent nearly 24 hours unable to boost Instagram posts following the first round, whereas Bolsonaro’s account remained unimpeded. Some of Lula’s posts lacked functional 'share' buttons and faced severe reductions in reach"

The MAGA cult is crying over Brazil. Wait until they lose the House (and potentially the Senate) in a week. They will be screaming about election fraud. Only elections they lose are fraudulent.

Lula da Silva’s re-election has major geopolitical importance. Lula has been at loggerheads with the Trump administration. The latter was openly interfering in the election process by backing Flavio Bolsonaro. This attempt to put a pro-US government in position in Latin America’s biggest country was an integral part of Trump administration’s revival of the Monroe Doctrine. The Global South would have been weakened with Lula’s defeat. Brazil is the strongest voice of the Global South in Latin America. BRICS would have been weakened too if the US promoted right wing had won in Brazil. Although Flavio Bolsonaro’s father did not walk out of BRICS when he won but today with the Trump administration pressure may have put to do so. Bilaterally too, Lula’s victory is a plus for relations with India. The agenda of bilateral ties has become much more substantial with the exchange of visits by Modi and Lula.

Lula: “We’re going to live in a country where the respected flag is this one, because on the other side they campaigned with this flag, but they want to govern with the American flag. We campaigned with this one, govern with this one, and win or lose with this one.”

Dennis Small: "The City of London, Wall Street, and the Trump administration had gone full tilt to oust Lula from power, as part of their strategic drive to destroy the BRICS (Flávio promised he would pull Brazil out of the BRICS) and silence the voice of the Global South demanding a new international economic system. That all backfired—and it will be a backfire heard around the world." eir.news/2026/10/news/lula-w…

I wrote the below after the first round in the Brazilian elections. This is why Lula's victory tonight is celebrated around the world among nations who look to Brazilian leadership for the reinvigoration of international law.
What happens in Brazil won't stay in Brazil. Though the Brazilian people are casting their votes based on their own domestic considerations, their decisions will have global implications in a manner beyond those of all previous Brazilian elections. Brazilian foreign policy has been unusually inclined to treat international law, sovereign equality, multilateral institutions, and peaceful dispute settlement as core principles, rather than mere aspirational goals. Article 4 of Brazil's 1988 Constitution is quite remarkable. It explicitly prescribes principles such as human rights, self-determination, non-intervention, equality among states, and peaceful settlement of disputes. As such, "peaceful settlement" and "sovereign equality" are constitutional principles of Brazilian foreign policy. It is not clear whether a Fávio Bolsonaro government will fully honor this crucial part of Brazil's constitution. His father was particularly critical of Brazil's traditional support for multilateralism, for instance. And a shift in this specific area would come at a crucial point in history in which Brazil has emerged as one of the strongest and most principled supporters of multilateralism and international law, while European states have miserably failed to uphold these principles in recent years. The fight to restore the centrality of international law and the UN Charter in international relations, reverse the trend in which norms around the use of force are weakened or hollowed out, and muster the political will to collectively address shared threats and challenges will be FAR MORE difficult without Brazil as a full and committed partner.
