BREAKING: AstraZeneca reports major breakthrough in stomach cancer treatment, with its experimental drug reducing the risk of death by 53% compared with chemotherapy in a late-stage trial.

One of the world's biggest cancer conferences is happening right now. Here are 5 breakthroughs they're talking about:
1. The world's leading cause of cancer death (lung cancer) now has a therapy that cut the risk of death by 58%, moving median survival from 12.7 to 21.1 months (small cell lung cancer).
2. A new personalized therapy for Melanoma can train the immune system in cancer patients and alongside a common cancer med, it cut the risk of recurrence or death by 42%.
3. A therapy has been FDA approved to allow certain people with a subset of rectal cancers to skip chemo, radiation, and surgery. Around half of patients so far were cancer free over a year later. Colorectal cancer is the deadliest cancer in Americans under 50.
4. Chinese researchers presented data on a new therapy for breast cancer where it more than doubled the time before the cancer began to worsen.
5. Another huge therapy saw median survival increase by almost 50% in a specific mutated type of lung cancer, while also lowering decreasing severe side effects. (NSCLC type)

GDF15 is the best biomarker of energetic stress we have. Psilocybin is one of the most powerful medicines that alter states of mind and stimulate the healing process.
Intriguing results linking psilocybin and GDF15 in people with Parkinson’s disease.
Mitochondrial stress (GDF-15) is reduced in Parkinson's disease patients after psilocybin administration (Bradley et al.: jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…)
This supports our hypothesis that #psychedelics affect mitochondria (journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs…)

These guys never reported their primary endpoint. Because they didn’t like it.
So now blaming @Cleerlyhealth because they got the answer they liked with “re-analysis”. It should have never been accepted for publication but it is ridiculous to blame Cleerly for this. Show us the data to justify this.
We, the authors, retracted the paper, @Drlipid
This was due to the anomalous @Cleerlyhealth dataset they provided us alongside their repeated refusal to quality control check their work.
Study participants have since resubmitted their scans and have gotten results far more in line with the other independent analyses from Heartflow and QAngio.
So yes, understandably, we moved to withdraw the paper leading to its retraction.
(This has been known for over half year now.)

Over 85% of oncologists at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center use OpenEvidence.
Together, @MSKCancerCenter and OpenEvidence have built OncoKB, MSK’s expert interpretation of a tumor’s genetics, directly into OpenEvidence, putting it in the hands of oncologists across the United States.
As Dr. Anaeze Offodile puts it: “Our mission is to end cancer for life.” As of today, we are widening OncoKB’s reach so that patients everywhere benefit from the same rigor as patients at MSK. Watch the story.

🚨 Lilly just made another deal that could quietly matter A LOT for the future of obesity treatment.
$LLY is partnering with METiS TechBio in a deal worth up to $1.1 BILLION to develop AI-designed lipid nanoparticles capable of delivering therapies to specific tissues.
This isn’t an obesity-specific deal. But think bigger than another GLP-1.
If Lilly can eventually use this technology to deliver RNA, gene-editing tools or other therapeutic payloads directly into metabolic tissues, we could be talking about drugs designed to alter obesity biology much closer to the source, potentially with very different dosing and durability than today’s weekly injections.
The obesity market is rapidly becoming much bigger than “who has the best GLP-1.”
I’m hopeful for a future where we get to the root causes of metabolic dysfunction and disease. This feels like Lilly taking a step in that direction.

🚨 Novo just dropped a BIG CagriSema data point:
Women in a Phase 3 analysis lost an average 25% of their body weight at 68 weeks.
By menopausal status:
• Premenopausal: 26.7%
• Perimenopausal: 24.8%
• Postmenopausal: 23.1%
CagriSema combines semaglutide + cagrilintide, hitting GLP-1 and amylin pathways.
Very interesting data given how much hormones can affect weight…

BREAKING: OpenAI acquires Orchestra Bio to build AI agents for drug development.
It's the latest move in a growing arms race between OpenAI and Anthropic to bring AI into bio and drug discovery.
OpenAI:
• Launched GPT-Rosalind for life sciences
• Partnered with Novo Nordisk, with additional work across Moderna and Amgen
• Acquired Orchestra Bio to automate drug development workflows
Anthropic:
• Acquired Coefficient Bio for ~$400M
• Launched Claude Science and partnered with Novo Nordisk
• Built its own wet lab, where ~950 Claude agents helped uncover a novel enzyme system
The AI labs are moving deeper into the actual process of discovering and developing new medicines.

In my own clinics I've replaced most of my medical assistants with RNs. My top clinic director is an APRN. She's a former college anatomy and physiology professor with an MD, and her NP degree comes from a major university program that wasn't funded by an ACA grant. IYKYK.
I pay my top people about 20% above the going rate. My MBA tells me that's a mistake. Long term it's the cheapest decision I make. I've had the same staff for years.
A great team member can do the work of three average ones. Average performers carry a cost that never shows up on a P&L. I have to watch their work closely, step in and redo things, and teach the same lessons over and over. Many of them can't handle the cognitive workload of a busy clinic. They can also turn toxic and wear down the team dynamic. Your A players end up picking up the slack until they burn out.
A players also recruit A players.
A 20% premium for 3x the output? I'll take that bet all day long.
