I'm usually not a fan of Laika's films; admire the animation from them but that's about it. However, I agree with @NickZednik with #Wildwood. It had great animation, an engaging story, and a surprisingly good score by Dario Marianelli. See it on the big screen!
#Wildwood is the definition of animation is cinema! They really don’t make ‘em quite as often as this! As epic as it is emotional filled with incredible fantasy wonder and a third act that delivers some of the best battle sequences I’ve seen period. Gorgeous on a big screen too!

Yeah this watch cemented this with The Odyssey as the best film this year and it's not close and Carey Mulligan as Alexandra is by far the best villain in years. She's given enough sympathy to care and understand her reason for why she is doing what she does but she's also a hateful character for the same reasons. Just masterful writing for her and the whole film. My only complaint would probably be the parents. They just don't add anything to the movie. They're pretty useless in the script and to the situation. Kinda bad parents. Also wish we could have seen more of the governor. Kinda just there for a couple scenes.
There's plenty of films that have released that I need to see and plenty that have yet to come out but it's going to take something extraordinary to beat out this or Odyssey at this rate.

Last day at @chifilmfest
Bittersweet, I’m sad for it to end, but man, it’s been a treat.
So many great films, but even more great friends/connections. Some old, some new. Feeling very blessed.
Very thankful for the Chicago Film Community. – at Chicago, IL
Yearly #MidnightMass rewatch in the books and every rewatch still rocks me to my core

❤️ So proud of James and Tom and Naomi and everyone who worked so incredibly hard…
Audiences say #Clayface is Verified Hot at 94% on the Popcornmeter! rottentomatoes.com/m/clayfac…
It begs repeating it’s okay to criticize the DCU and still be excited for it.
If each project is said to have its own identity then don’t publicly shame someone if they don’t feel the same way as you.
#Clayface may not be someone’s vibe but #ManOfTomorrow could be.
Carry on.
MOUSE is a solid companion piece to GHOSTLIGHT. Has moments of sheer delight and utter heartbreak. Compelling performances throughout but a predictable narrative cruises by without really pushing the emotion further than it could have. Liked, but wanted to feel more. #ChiFilmFest

I need certain people to stop overhyping every single film they watch. How is anyone supposed to trust your opinion when every tweet makes it sound like you just saw the next Godfather? I love when people get excited about movies, but when everything is remarkable, masterful or a tour de force, the praise quickly loses its meaning. This constant hyperbole is doing more harm than good.

#Clayface is…. fine. I was entertained by it. I don’t think it’s revolutionary in any way. Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie elevate the material they’re given here. Not a homerun for DC Studios, but a solid base hit. Still need my socks knocked off by a non-Gunn film here.
WICKER is for the romantics! Odd, quirky, hilarious, and kind of horny but, what really works is the depth Olivia Colman always brings and the heart of a gentle giant by Alexander Skarsgård. Nice commentary on social status and the constitution of love. Great makeup too!

I didn’t expect much from #Clayface, but I still walked away disappointed.
It’s a failure of imagination that feels like an after-school art class taught on the side of a highway.

#Mouse is lovely. O’Sullivan and Thompson are firmly solidifying themselves as essential voices in the independent film space. Katherine Mallen Kupferer continues her ascent as one to watch and Sophie Okonedo is a force of nature. #ChiFilmFest

#Clayface — mixed on this one overall, but I think I do lean a little more positive. Two big reasons for that are: I loved Tom Rhys Harries, & the final act I actually had a lot of fun with. I like how it commits to him being a villain and doesn’t fall into the Sony anti-hero trope.
I’m also very squeamish, so the body horror & most of the practical effects worked for me. My big issue is the script. It’s REALLY rough in a lot of places, especially the dialogue. It almost doesn’t feel like it was written by people.
In addition to that, there are a lot of interesting ideas presented for Matt Hagen, only for the story to devolve into the most basic, cliché revenge plot with a bland motivation.
There’s a much better film in here somewhere.
I may not have entirely loved #Clayface but there’s a club scene that has so much sauce and it was absolutely fantastic
