I’m going to give you a 19th/20th Century Turkish word that must be considered by all leaders (#prententious, or not): *adamsendecilik* ‘being messed about in a pointless way by someone in authority to the point at which you need help’ - that’s what’s got to stop at every level.

Need help please!
An independent bookseller in Bath have agreed to list Pat Carlen's and my book (quite a coup given that they also stock Grave Lavery and Susan Stryker)
If 10 people can order it, I might be in with a chance of getting it stocked.
The book is about my fight against OU. It is straight up GC and recounts feminist and lesbian lives in UK in 80s onwards.
If you know someone near southwest / Bath, please get them to order the book.

I know this isn’t meant to be funny, but I’m literally cackling. “My decades long thesis on just war demonstrates israel has been fighting one, therefore I am revising my decades long thesis because it cannot possibly be that israel is doing something right”
Michael Walzer published “Just and Unjust Wars,” an attempt to delineate the rights and wrongs of warfare in both its causes and its conduct, in 1977. In the nearly 50 years since, no other book on the subject has matched its influence. The precepts are not complicated: it is just to defend your country from an invasion and it is unjust to invade a country that has not attacked you—although Walzer does allow for exceptions, mostly for humanitarian causes. It is just to assume certain risks to avoid civilian casualties and it is unjust to bomb towns indiscriminately to compel an enemy to surrender. The justice of going to war—what philosophers call jus ad bellum—is separate from jus in bello, the justice of how a war is fought.
The war in Gaza has made Walzer rethink one of the book’s fundamental principles. “The wall between jus ad bellum and jus in bello, which had sustained his theory for almost half a century, was no longer sturdy,” Jordi Graupera writes. As Walzer said to him, “There is a sense in which the carnage of Gaza, the ongoing carnage, simply made the war unjust.” Read about why a philosopher of war is now reconsidering his seminal work: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/T7…

The fact that the Ghosts movie is the number one movie in the UK is probably the most cheering and reassuring news I've heard about the UK in some time. We're gonna be OK, folks! 👻

How morally depraved do you have to be to claim Jews are ‘weaponising’ the horrendous bullying of our children in schools?
We are up against racists who claim they are good people as they do everything they can to attack British Jews.

Humza, these innocent Christians weren’t simply “martyred”, they were murdered in a terrorist attack while attending a funeral.
Condemning terrorism is easy, so your calculated choice of language here is very obvious and cowardly.

This was a rhetorical question – as people have pointed out Britain has had numerous drops larger than this.
What amuses me is the people who seem to think only combat drops count in comparison with an article about a training drop. Unless they think we’ve just attacked Germany

You know that old joke where the far left thinks Jews are fascists and the far right thinks Jews are communists?
Well, they did the meme.

Communism is a jewish invention, yet you think it’ll destroy another jewish invention in Zionism?
FT comments never miss.
I don’t think I’ve read such a rational analysis of the situation we’re in for a long time.
I've been in France since 2002 and have never seen the streets so violent nor the politics so extreme. From the sacking of the supermarket on my street to the prospect of Présidente Le Pen, here's me @FT including thoughts from 2 French Nobel laureates as.ft.com/r/addcad57-0f9d-4e…

Janice Turner in the Times, serves it cold to Sally Rooney.
"Rooney’s work brims with jaded ennui: achievement is empty, love problematic, sex just a serotonin blip before postcoital gloom. Beautiful World, Where Are You? whines the title of her third novel. I’ve met young Ukrainians under nightly Russian drone attack who find more laughter and joy in life than her privileged, Mogadoned nihilists.
The longing to feel something — anything — defines her characters and her own life. But now, at 35, Rooney has found meaning at last. The cause of Palestine is “to join in something greater than our selves, to participate in some small way in a struggle for human liberation”. Gaza is not about the suffering of a people but Rooney’s self-realisation."

If you are an acclaimed, voice-of-a-generation novelist there are infinite practical ways to deploy your fame and money to aid Gaza’s hungry, injured and displaced. But Rooney has chosen one that gives her the ultimate prize: pain-free public martyrdom.
