How nice.
If there was a similar GCSE proposed to study the UK's rich culture and heritage Lucy would have been at the front of the queue to denounce it as far-right and racist.
Proud to announce that students in England will be able to study Ukrainian at GCSE.
It’s a chance for pupils to explore Ukraine’s rich culture and history and, for the Ukrainian community to remain connected to their heritage.
This is another step in our enduring support for Ukraine as part of the 100 Year Partnership 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Labour and the Tories have reduced us to a high tax/higher debt/high interest rate/high inflation country and none of them have a clue about what they’ve done.

Honestly, as rich as government subsidies have made him, if this fellow were any thicker, I'm sure he'd coagulate.
He must know that he is lying.
I don't know how people like him live with themselves.
Dear Andy, you do know this is untrue, don’t you?
Highest energy bills in the world are due to:
* Reckless pursuit of net zero
* Blowing up our coal-fired power stations
* Failing to exploit our own fossil fuels
* Insane dependency on foreign oil and gas. The phrase “over a barrel” springs to mind
* Paying Norway £20 billion plus a year for oil and gas we could get out of our own North Sea
* Subsidizing renewables to the tune of billions by slapping green taxes on bills
* Putting an eco-cult and leftist ideology before the comfort and warmth of the British people
* Allowing good jobs to be lost in pursuit of all of the above
* Claiming your government wants to “reindustrialise” while creating conditions no manufacturer could succeed in
* Closing refineries and gas storage so the UK is uniquely vulnerable this winter and likely to have serious power cuts.
You’re welcome.

“The fasten seat belts sign is on”.
This is a message I received early this morning from one of the UK’s most experienced, savvy and respected financial traders. Someone I have come to know and trust for the last 25 years.
10-year bond yields are now almost 4.5pc - up some 50 basis points over the last month.
30-year yields this morning went above 6pc - a 28-year high.
Yet the UK’s political and media class continues to focus on party posturing and folksy rhetoric, ignoring the slow-motion disaster that has been happening on the UK’s sovereign bond markets for at least the last 18 months - a disaster that will inevitably, unless we drastically change course, turn into a fully blown market meltdown.
At that point, the UK government won’t be able to borrow enough money to finance our already spiralling debt interest bill.
Britain’s financial management will be taken over by overseas technocrats - that will be the condition of additional borrowing, to maintain the basic functions of the state, as happened in Greece and Italy back in the early 2010s and here in Britain 50 years ago this year (when we were forced in 1976 to apply to the IMF for a bailout).
The austerity then imposed on Britain would make 2010-2019 feel like a picnic - far, far worse than it would be if we took serious action now to control our public finances.
Lower-income households would suffer most - and there would be serious damage done to the UK’s already rapidly-fraying social fabric ….
I have been warning about these looking fiscal dangers publicly, in my newspaper columns and elsewhere, since at least early 2024.
Doing so hasn’t been easy or fun. I have been dismissed and derided by numerous economists, “economists”, officials and policymakers - as well as lots of journalists.
I absolutely don’t want a disastrous 1976-style outcome - which is why I’ve taken the blows and issued the warnings.
The state is too big. Public spending is out of control. Our fiscal rules are a convenient nonsense - designed to kick the can of financial reality into the future. We need to get real … and take bold action to tame the growth of spending, push back a now totally over-bearing state and snap the British economy out of today’s high-tax-high-borrowing-low-growth doom loop - the result of myopic, counter-productive policy-making by successive governments for the last decade and more …
Other prominent economists who agree with me - ie who are financially-literate, can read a yield curve, have a passing interest in economic history and who understand the dangers of some 80pc of UK government borrowing going on debt interest as it currently is - need to chuck “career risk” in the bin, and start saying publicly what so many of them have, for quite a while now, only had the bottle to say to me in private …

Labour plan for old people:
1. Pay them less
2. Euthanise them when they get sick
3. Take their money through death duties
4. Seize their house while it’s in probate
I’m not a lawyer. Is this contempt of court?
Didn’t Tommy Robinson get sent to prison for 18 months for that?
This is Andy Burnham on the BBC giving a character verdict on a man who has pleaded not guilty. This is a live case.
The PM then implies that @RealDannyTommo is racist. That is strange, because I know Danny is not.
This is the PM trying someone who has pled not guilty on TV.
Whatever your thoughts on Danny or this case, this is shameful, dirty and unrighteous. No. 10 leading a jury before the evidence has been heard.
Sinister.

This morning at 7:30am, a group of men dressed in black, their faces covered by balaclavas, gathered around the Limekiln roundabout in Dover.
The men, members of the anti-migrant vigilante group Patriot Platform, proceeded to block the port of Dover and several roads nearby.

This month’s Prime Minister Andy Burnham @andyburnham has just announced he’s increasing foreign aid to 0.7% of GDP, which is £21 billion per year. Let me put that in context for you. The average amount of income tax paid per year by basic rate taxpayers in the UK is £2,700. So that means that nearly 8 million taxpayers in the UK are working all year ONLY to give their wages to foreign governments. There are 30 million basic rate taxpayers in the UK, so one in four people that you see working in restaurants or pubs, nurses, cleaners and many more are paying all of their tax to foreign countries. Countries like Pakistan that can afford nuclear weapons, to India that can afford a space programme, to China that can afford to buy the world, to Somalia that doesn’t have a government, only warlords. Etc etc etc etc etc. One in eight British basic rate taxpayers are paying all of their money not to schools in this country. Not for hospitals in this country, nor to fix the roads, nor anything whatsoever in Britain. Every penny goes abroad. Eight million people here giving their hard earned money to the British government who then give every penny away. Every single penny. So, if you’ve ever wondered why things aren’t improving in this country and wonder what happens to the money you’ve made from your toil and your sleepless nights of wondering how you’ll pay the next bill, that’s what happens to it. 8 million of you are working for foreign governments. Think about that.

The Labour government are spending up to £30 billion on carbon capture machines.
Absolute masterclass in stupidity.
Trees have silently hoovered up and stored carbon for 400 million years - cheap, self-replicating, oxygen-spitting, temperature reducing, photosynthesis producing, flood protecting, landscape beautifying and with no gargantuan contracts to corporations.
Yet the Labour government are investing gigantic sums of money in giant metal dystopian lungs that cost a small country’s GDP and still need endless consultation exercises to prove that they’re not just a very expensive version of a machine cosplaying as a tree.
Carbon capture: nature already solved it. 🌳
But the Labour government preferred the invoice from their donor corporations.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. But they do on the carbon capture machine version.

The Labour government’s energy policy in a nutshell:
We sit on a giant North Sea oil and gas supply and refuse to drill any more of it. Meanwhile, we pay £billions a year to Norway to import oil and gas from the same sea and they laugh at us all the way to the bank and their $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund - built up from North Sea oil and gas revenues.
It’s like owning a farm full of cows and then banning yourself from milking them, then paying the neighbouring farm a fortune to milk their cows and sell you the milk… while insisting this is “climate leadership.”
Genius level ineptitude.
Odds on the coward doing this?
