I just finished writing a script for my series The VOX BOX and there is a comparison in there I think you may appreciate:
CHIEVES: When the poor practiced it, they called it witchcraft. When the wealthy adopted it, they called it esotericism.
SU: And the difference?
CHIEVES: The poor were burned. The wealthy were initiated.
SU: Similar practices. Different black robes.
CHIEVES: The historical parallels are rather difficult to ignore.
SU: But witches were condemned for allegedly consorting with mysterious beings.
These people founded societies!
CHIEVES: History has a peculiar habit of distinguishing heresy from enlightenment according to the social standing of the accused.
SU: So when a peasant woman encounters a mysterious stranger, she’s a witch.
But when an aristocrat does it, she’s a mystic?
CHIEVES: Apparently, enlightenment improves considerably with wealth.
They ripped The Mothers from our stories and sold us back whores and concubines.
They laid blame at our feet for your fall. Like you had no agency.
My framework will never be "deceptive whore". If you fall, my friend, you did it on your own.
