The greatest team in the history of Olney Tiger Track and Field.
We capped off a storybook season with 8 medals, 6 all-state performances, and 2 school records. 1 point/.06 seconds off a team trophy.
They love each other, and I love them. Sad it’s over, but so, so grateful⚡️

I started working on a book a while back. It will probably take much longer to finish than expected, which is probably a good thing, as I certainly don’t want to publish a “speed slop” as my friend Carl Valle elegantly calls poorly researched and misleading information🤣

Amazing change in footpath. 5 days between sessions. Both images are from where peak velo occurred. Athlete was locked into a forward lean. Cue was to continue to push, but direct it vertically at 20 m mark. "Rapid vertical pressure."
No fancy drill. Just remarkable execution.

All those elements of athletic development take different meaning as an athlete progresses
Fly 10s are phenomenal for the masses, and they helped us build a culture of speed. It’s easy/efficient for large groups and kids love it. Those things matter.
But there are also increasingly affordable tools that allow coaches to take the next step with athletes that need it.
I fly the drone on Friday nights for our sideline replay system. This past Friday was our first game with the softball field done and the track striped. Couldn’t get over how great everything looks lit up. 🤌

Floating sprints can't be seen with timing gates. Upgrade your technology to tools that can decode the subtle nuances of great training and coaching.
Great to see @OlneyTigerTrack capturing continuous velocity and step parameters with the best tools in the world.
Tonight an athlete was obviously running tight at max v. Switched up to Build - Sprint - Float for final two reps... .30 m/s faster (max v hit during the float), and stride was .25 meters longer (per step).
I know it’s the way of things but wild to see sweatshirts that would have went for 10 bucks at Walmart 15 years ago with price tags of 60-70 bucks at Target now because they are “retro”.

Too weak for your speed or too slow for your strength...

Highly recommend reading the @zentrumsport work on structure, muscle protection, and running mechanics.
Another great study: @KenClarkSpeed and Jurdan shared how angular velocities can cause massive torque on the hamstrings.

Spikes this time of the year is fine‼️
You wouldn’t play football without cleats would you?! So why not let your athletes sprint in the proper footwear?
And do NOT say spikes will hurt you 🤦🏽♂️that’s a coaching problem not a spike problem
I’ve posted before about my dad - he was out on the edge in the 90s trying any way he could to find an edge for me… parachutes, weighted vests, overspeed belts, hand weights, strength shoes… To this day I am thankful… those experiences inform everything I do (and don’t do).

You don't need more time, you need more focus.
Practice the disciplined, joyful pursuit of less, not the undisciplined, miserable pursuit of more.
Double-down on the 20% that produces the 80% of your results.
