I feel crazy seeing people say this. We watch her wrestle with the implications of her performance, she seems to feel really bad about it. She just also comes to the (correct) conclusion that actors are allowed to portray convicted criminals even if it affects their reputation
Strongly disagree. Amanda is in complete denial about how her performance could have been harmful to Holmes. She’s just like her in that way, she’s saying obvious lies while believing it’s true.

You may not like it, but this is what a vibrant party democracy looks like
The first time I was a delegate to NYC-DSA convention was 2022. It's the very heart of DSA's democracy. And this year, I’m voting for the Socialist Majority slate. Vote by Sunday night: vote.socialistmajority.com/n…

Don't forget to vote in the delegate election, AOC is on the ballot (and if you're in North Brooklyn so am I!)
AOC is on the ballot when you vote for NYC-DSA delegate. Vote the Socialist Must Lead slate #1 by Sunday Oct 25th at 11:59 pm to ensure DSA is laying the groundwork for an AOC presidential campaign!

It's infantilizing white women, but in this case it's because she self-infantilizes. Her whole MO is essentially partnering with men who help her maintain ignorance of the dirty work so she can remain the wide-eyed, naive, genius woman-child. She chooses not to know.
what was in that movie that’s got so many people running defense for elizabeth holmes? or is it just people infantilizing white women again

Every high profile story about a woman involved in conspiracy with a romantic partner provokes this question of whether it's more sexist to blame everything on the woman or to forclose culpability, forcing everything into "she's an evil master manipulator" or "she's just a girl"

I don't really think she's either, I think she's a person who believes in herself and technology to the point of delusion, and ignores anything that could dispel that delusion. If she were a man we'd recognize this as a form of weaponized incompetence which makes her culpable

I think we need to understand this kind of thing as a failure to accept their own natural limitations. They want to be the kind of obviously hot man who can effortlessly get any woman. It's equivalent to a pretty, but normal-looking woman never getting over not being a model.
i cant get over how my ex would regularly go on rants about how hard dating is for him and women dont find him attractive, to ME. months into a relationship venting to your girlfriend about how no woman finds you attractive. think about dat for a minute....

Hey it's cool you're trying to push back on unhealthy beauty standards, but it would be a lot more effective if you just said she looks hot and left it at that
not to be that guy that comments on a woman’s body, but I appreciate the hell out of how she carries herself at a normal/healthy weight (not a sample size) despite the return of the collarbones - the kids need to see that shapes like these are sexy, hot, and FIERCE

You can do this but only if you work remote – at San Francisco, CA
No, you cannot walk 10,000 steps daily, get 8 hours of sleep, cook every night, clean every day, take care of a family, make time for your own hobbies, and still be productive at work every day. This is not just propaganda, it is nonsense. Free yourself from it.

I understand Carrie (2026) is not very good, that's not surprising to me. But I won't stand for Carrie (2013) revisionism. It was a bad remake too! It was widely panned! Most movies in the early 2010s were bad! – at Inwood, NY

Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…

I was so surprised to hear someone say after THOC that the "bit" about the guy in the band and his recently deceased girlfriend went on too long. What bit! I was crying! – at Manhattan, NY
when people find John Wilson mean spirited, I feel like the call is coming from inside the house. you can laugh at the absurdity of humans without automatically looking down on them

It sometimes feels like this is already how people talk
in one possible future, "cuck" loses its, uh, vulgar meaning and evolves into a synonym for "bedside". you'll have a cuck table with a cuck lamp and a cuck clock on it. maybe get a glass of cuck water that you forget to drink before going to sleep and now it's tepid.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

I really liked Obsession and think some critics overestimate the number of people who came away seeing Bear as the good guy. That said the visual language of the film does fix the viewer in Bear's perspective, and horror in general tends to linger on mutilated women's bodies. – at Brooklyn, NY
this tweet reminds me of the time i saw someone say they were watching the sopranos and someone replied “isn’t that show super misogynistic and racist” like oh didn’t realize you thought the mobsters were supposed to be the good guys

This doesn't negate the obvious message of the film but it does kind of complicate it. The horror as a viewer comes from seeing Nikki from Bear's perspective, it's a cautionary tale for men, there's going to be a little bit of misogyny baked in to that. Art has inherent ambiguity – at Brooklyn, NY
