I honestly reflect a lot on why I do what I do, and I think the answer I always come back to is that I’m in pursuit of greatness.
I want to be great within my field.
I’m not doing that specifically for money or accolades. I think they’re cool achievements along the way, and they’re good ways to keep score.
But ultimately, I want to do it for me.
I want to be involved in a field that I believe is going to be extremely important, especially to the future. And I want to know that I’ve done the absolute best I can within that field.
That’s why I do what I do.
I also want to be recognised as a peer by the people I consider to be the best in the space.
And I think I’m starting to achieve that.
I have people in this industry with much larger followings than mine coming to me for advice on trades, market perspectives and my opinions on what’s happening.
And to me, that means a lot.
I think the quote below reinforces something I’ve been reflecting on recently.
Because sometimes I feel like I’m insane. Sometimes I feel like I’m completely alone in the way I see things.
But in many ways, I think that has to be the case.
I want my opinions to be unique. I want them to be mine.
I don’t want to simply repeat what everyone else thinks. I want to develop my own understanding, challenge my own thinking and hopefully see things that others don’t.
But I also think it’s important to remind ourselves why we do what we do.
And for me, the answer is pretty simple.
I’m trying to be great.
