An attorney known for talking shit about public defenders succeeds in persuading a PD client to hire him for a very, very serious assault case. The PD had negotiated a cap of 10 yrs to serve. The “real lawyer” instead pleads the client guilty straight up, no cap. Judge imposes 13 yrs. You don’t always get what you pay for. In the legal field, you very often get unscrupulous grifters whose business model revolves around exploiting suffering and fear in order enrich themselves, with very little concern about outcomes or the well-being of their clients.

As public defenders, we see firsthand how profoundly unjust our criminal legal system is. In California, this system is deeply stained by systemic racism, flaws that cannot be undone, when the punishment is death.

Oops looks like half of all the people I arrested for being gangster terrorists and threw in torture dungeons without trial were wrongfully accused. My bad.

Whenever a prosecutor does "lawyering tricks" it's like, withholding exculpatory evidence or tampering with evidence. When the defense does it, it's excluding illegally obtained evidence

If these rabid pro prosecution people took even 5 seconds to talk to people who have been victims of crimes, they'd be shocked to see how many of them who want some form of accountability besides incarceration. Of course that would shatter the savior complex they all have.
people be like “what if YOU were the victim of a violent crime” like oh honey I WAS
