The way frontier labs have restricted access to cyber capabilities makes no sense. If you're considered a "defender" you're not allowed access to the "offensive" versions of the models (the ones that can do development/validation of malware and exploits).
So for example, if you want to build some sample malware to test a detection system, nope.
Or if there's a major crisis due to a critical vulnerability in PHP and you need to rapidly triage fake exploits to see if there are any real ones floating around so you can warn people, nope.
Want to build a remote code exploit to make sure the detection rules you plan on proposing to the clients actually work? Hard nope.
You gotta call your red team friend and wait for them to do your job for you, because "defender" are only allowed to play in the sandbox with the children.
Not an expert, but I think that the ability to triage in-the-wild exploits during a major crisis affecting 40 million systems is possible maybe important.
And then they want to ban abliterated open weight models, which half of the people are only using because frontier labs will only give them access to lobotomized models.

the good thing about the eMudhra CA private key mess is that we can finally use https on localhost

There is only one answer to cybersecurity threats: Fix your shit.
Scared of threat actors using AI? Worried about rogue agents? Think abliterated models are spooky? Fix. Your. Shit.
The "ban AI models and regulate GPU access" crowd should instead fix their shit.

The context behind such tweets is that the AI companies are rejecting 40 years of cybersecurity knowledge. They are ignorant of cybersecurity and are trying to re-invent it from scratch, repeating the mistakes of bad people from 40 years ago.
If someone steals my debit card number and used it to buy inference is that a "distillation attack" too?

I don't completely know how to explain this, but as a cat owner you quickly learn that "absence of cat (chill)" and "absence of cat (suspicious" are two very different kinds of silence
Crypto people: don’t confuse my recent posts for an interest in crypto. Your suffering is simply part of the sport that I enjoy.
I’m here to observe the advancement of hardware implants & supply chain attacks… wherever they may exist.
The crypto industry has taken advantage of tons of normies by overpromising and underdelivering. Almost 20 years and the hardware wallets can’t meet the hardware security of $90 bank card readers… lol

New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control.
In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale.
Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…

I too have worked with GPUs. Also I have worked with Duracell batteries, refrigerators, big electric fans, toasters and marbles.

No matter how cool any of these vibecoded slop mods look, I'm already so fucking sick of seeing them and it's only been a week. They're EVERYWHERE. "I combined poo with pee and now you can play Poocraft in Peerim" I do NOT care.

“I didn’t do it, AI did” is the biggest cope and laziest excuse of all time.
