This was a fun conversation about @justinalastairj's and my baby journey, the genetic basis for EQ, AI consciousness, what superintelligence looks like, and why embryo polygenic testing and whole-genome sequencing is a civilization-changing technology. Enjoy!
Watch @PaulEremenko, former CTO of Airbus and now CEO of P-1 AI as he joins @JonathanAnomaly to discuss his family’s IVF journey, why he chose to work with Herasight, and the future his son may inherit.

Don’t do many of these, but had a great time talking through some important questions on frontier intelligence with @JTLonsdale , and of course always enjoy time spent with @_sholtodouglas .
Worth a listen!
Some of my friends will be mad I recorded this, and comms people at Anthropic objected to releasing certain parts (and delayed it).
But it's important for leaders to make these conversations happen. And I have a lot of respect for these two.
Over a month ago, I sat down with Anthropic's key technical leaders @_sholtodouglas & @the_marwell for an optimistic insiders’ view of the AI frontier, with hard questions too: open source, regulatory capture, slowing down USA vs China, and more.
If you are building something cool in AI (especially physical AI, but not necessarily) and want to hang out with like-minded folks in the Bay Area, we are hosting a happy hour at the P-1 AI office in San Mateo this Thursday

We appear to have built @P_1_AI around a style violation.
Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

How does one irresponsibly release math?
We’re working with an independent advisory group of mathematicians to help OpenAI responsibly share advances in AI and mathematics.
The group will advise on how we assess and communicate new mathematical results, uphold academic and professional standards, and build tools that support mathematical research and learning.
Through this work, we want mathematicians to be at the center of shaping how AI supports mathematical understanding and how its benefits reach the wider community.

Me: raises Series A for @P_1_AI
Mercury: sends champagne
Me: spins up P-1 Defense subsidiary to serve engineering AI to US defense customers
Mercury: “The subsidiary falls outside the types of companies we’re currently able to support.”
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
is defensetech really where y'all want to draw the line @mercury ? is this a values-based decision @immad ?

76 years ago, Ray Bradbury published "There Will Come Soft Rains," an apocalyptic short story about a time when we have wiped ourselves out—but our AI obliviously continues automating our empty smart homes.
Bradbury set the story on August 4, 2026.

Fun trip down memory lane. Two years later, the vision is unchanged and we've made great strides toward it.
In late July 2024, I cold-emailed @PaulEremenko to ask about his new startup, and he replied minutes later with a 10-page white paper.
His vision was so ambitious that I wanted to back him before we even had our first call. And a week later, we did just that, leading his pre-seed round. Fast forward to today: we’ve tripled down in the company as it announces its $50M Series A, led by @NEA.
Congratulations to Paul and the entire @P_1_AI team. They’re only getting started!
Our CEO @PaulEremenko sat down with @JeffImmelt and @adwane on the @villageglobal podcast to discuss industrial AI, the talent war, and the impending singularity. Link to full episode in the comments.

Congratulations to @PaulEremenko, and the team at @P_1_AI on their $50M Series A.
In the latest episode of the Village Global Podcast, we met with Paul and @JeffImmelt, Venture Partner at @NEA, to talk workforce augmentation, the singularity, and how to avoid getting stuck in the proof-of-concept phase when selling to enterprises.
"Today we're talking about augmenting the workforce and helping reshore engineering jobs. At some point, AI will be able to build things that we don't know how to build today. "
"f I was gonna redesign my, my company around artificial intelligence, what's possible? Have a belief system, so that's where you spend money. Don't spread it every place. Have a real priority list. And then build a story."

"We are shipping a product in a form factor [customers] are very familiar with: a junior engineer who joins a team, initially does all the mundane, repetitive work... and learns and improves over time." - Our CEO @PaulEremenko sat down with @IntEngineering for a wide-ranging Q&A
I co-wrote a piece for Fortune on the role AI engineers can play as a tool to increase competitiveness for industrial OEMs. Enjoy.
From our CEO @PaulEremenko and @DaikinApplied Chief Digital Officer Ashish Srivastava in @FortuneMagazine: China graduates 10X more engineers than the US. The op-ed argues that engineering AI agents can help fill the gap, expand engineering bandwidth, & improve speed-to-market.

10 years ago we flew Airbus helicopters through the Uber app at Sundance (and almost got arrested for it)
I am greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Liebeck, one of the world's legendary aerodynamicists. I met Bob in 2000 when he was a Professor of the Practice at MIT, and then interned for him at Boeing in Long Beach working on the Blended Wing Body once I graduated. That was a turbulent and incredibly fun summer when Boeing "launched" the Sonic Cruiser over the BWB. Working for Bob was an unforgettable experience--I learned so much from him that helped me immensely throughout my career. For this, I am grateful and indebted to him. The aerospace industry lost a real giant who will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
not five years went by and someone finally inquired (admittedly in passing) about my profile banner image. I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED. it's called "The Color Men Choose When They Attack the Earth" (1968). it's by Walter De Maria, who is mostly known for his land art. this piece is in the @MenilCollection and it's massive.. 6 meters across. here is perhaps his most famous land art installation, called "The Lightning Field."
