Researchers from Penn Engineering, @StanfordEng, @CMUEngineering, @MITeng and SkyWater Technology built the first monolithic 3D chip produced in a U.S. commercial foundry.
By stacking memory and compute layers with ultra-dense vertical wiring, the chip moves data faster and overcomes the limits of flat designs. Early tests show strong performance gains, with simulations pointing to 10–12× improvements on real AI workloads.
