You are never too important to be nice to people.

THE RIVER — first-ever live performance.
September 21, 1979 — Madison Square Garden, NYC.
The audience didn’t know this song. The album wouldn’t arrive for another year.
That night at No Nukes, Bruce Springsteen introduced The River to the world for the very first time.
A song that would become one of his defining works — born onstage that night.

Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem.
Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked.
Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

It’s hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and — as if that wasn’t enough — helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.
Breaking News: Dolly Parton, the country singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur known for her outsize persona and prodigious vision and talent that placed her in a class by herself, has died at 80. nyti.ms/45Prr77

In a film career that began in the early 1960s, Robert Duvall was a central figure in the New Hollywood of the 1970s, adding grit and soul to legendary works from directors such as George Lucas, Robert Altman, and, most notably, Francis Ford Coppola. 🕊️

Interesting to note that pushing half of Green voters back many of the Mahmood reforms. It’s 57% of Lib Dem voters and 70% of Labour voters. Many politicians still out of touch with even their own supporters on this issue
EXCLUSIVE interview with Zack Polanski by @daisyeastlake
* Britain should take in more asylum seekers
'At the moment, 5 per cent of Britain is built on. We know that Germany is taking double the amount of people seeking asylum than we are, and France is taking more than we are too. So I think the first thing is to say it’s about taking a fair amount of people in proportion to other people'
* Migration debate is driven by racism
'We need to make racism unacceptable again. We’ve seen situations where people from Ukraine have rightly been welcomed into the country with open arms, and so they should be, they’re facing an illegal invasion. But where is that same hospitality to the Sudanese people, Eritrean people, people from Yemen?'
* Starmer is 'pushing racist rhetoric'
'I think Nigel Farage is setting the direction and Keir Starmer is catching up as quickly as he can. This is why we see a Labour Party that is tanking in the polls because they refuse to stand for anything and I think the British public are smarter than that. I think they’re kinder than that'
* Asylum seekers should be able to work in UK from the moment they arrive
'I think from the moment they arrive in the UK, people should be able to work or should be given the ability to work, because that means they’re then paying into the tax system. Also, very obviously, there are lots of vacancies, both in our NHS, in the care sector, in the construction sector'
* Trans women are women, JK Rowling is 'punching down' & 'intensely hateful'
'I often reflect that someone so wealthy could enjoy a peaceful life, but seems to spend time punching down metaphorically to trans people. I think it’s shameful'

.@BBCr4today @BBCNews Simon Jack said on 8am news "2.8m people, 1 in 5 working age adults are either not in work or not looking for work due to health condtions." How is 2.8million a fifth of all working age adults (42million age 16-64)? Mistake?
