Ofsted's Maths Research Review: A Misuse of Evidence? 🔥 Explosive🎇article from @MarkBoylanEd and Ashley Compton. Ofsted’s 2021 mathematics review has been widely criticised for misinterpreting research, making unwarranted causal claims, and drawing conclusions that aren’t supported by evidence. Critics argue that the review prioritises a narrow, procedural view of maths, contradicts the English National Curriculum, and could harm teaching quality. Many researchers whose work was cited have complained that their findings were misrepresented to fit Ofsted's agenda The sources in the article suggest that Ofsted's 2021 mathematics research review may have been conducted to support a pre-existing ideological position, rather than to objectively synthesize research and inform practice. 👇 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

John McCain and I didn’t always agree, but he understood that some values transcended parties. He knew that if we got in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, our democracy will not work. John McCain had character. That’s what I think about so much these days because it’s so different from what we see out of the Republican nominee.

This quote (from an Ofsted report) shows such poor understanding of how young children learn. Children do not need their play to be planned for them by adults - and in fact, one of the key executive function skills they are practicing through play is planning their time. Making choices. Self-control rather than being controlled. Adults stifle that opportunity for learning when they step in and take over. It is profoundly misguided to remove that from them in the name of making play more ‘productive’.
I mean. Their hands and bodies are active, but their minds are not. I can't even... . . @SwailesRuth @AaronTeamEC @FroebelTrust @ian_cushing and anyone who knows anything. 🤯🤯

The first review of education needs to start in Early Childhood 0-8. The transition year from R to year 1 matters so much. There are so many EYs people who should have been invited to the review. So when will @educationgovuk @bphillipsonMP @StephenMorganMP begin to include EYs?

Violence is not protest. Hatred has no place in South Yorkshire. The best - indeed the only - response to the heartbreaking attack in Southport, and the violence we’ve seen across the country, is to redouble our efforts to look out for and after each other. That is who we are.
