Thank you @ChiOnwurah it is a terrible blight on the centre of Newcastle in the middle of a housing & cost of living crisis.
Leaseholders in #Newcastle can face supposed charities like the Mary Magdalene & Holy Jesus Trust who refuse to extend leaseholds; or extortionate Building Management, Fire Safety & Ground Rent Fees yet the Govt's Leasehold Reform Bill won't help them. I asked the Govt - why not?

Some welcome news from @AngelaRayner today.
Funding will be made available for collectively owned buildings, and a Govt amendment will be tabled to extend leaseholder protections from 3 to 6 properties.
Positive steps we've long called for. We look forward to seeing the detail.

🆕 Minister @mtpennycook has set out his plans for shared ownership.
The problem? It’s a plan to sell more shared ownership homes, not to help existing shared owners.

MPs debate the Remediation Bill tomorrow.
We've told @AngelaRayner: Labour must take control and make homes fully safe and sellable.
Positive discussions must now lead to real change.

Leaseholders want to know
WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON ?
WE MUST FIGHT & WIN @AngelaRayner

ALT A titanic battle is raging to prevent us capping crippling ground rents that families have to pay, often to faceless companies. We must fight and win it. If Labour cannot fix such an obvious injustice and show families whose living standards have been crushed that we will fight for them, then we shouldn’t be surprised if they lose faith that anything can change.

Hi Paul, sadly September RPI is used to increase tens of thousands of shared owners’ rents. For most, the increase is September RPI + 0.5% and set in the lease.
Social landlords could change the formula to CPI + 1%, but funnily enough they’re not willing to do that.

Any of my leasehold/cladding followers know anyone who’s sold flat at a loss recently who’d be willing to talk - for today’s BBC News coverage of falling house prices - we want to illustrate that that’s mainly due to plummeting flat prices caused by leasehold/building safety.

Grenfell - 72 died from the fire, at least five died by suicide, 11,000 have PTSD, concerns about long term effects of toxicity on residents, 11 firefighters with terminal cancer - plus £1bn spent and rising.
That's 'nothing' right?

Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith has told the Tory conference that he would "scrap unnecessary net-zero housing red tape" and cut the cost of "delivering and therefore buying a new home by up to £50,000."
How would the Tories guarantee that developers pass on these supposed savings to homebuyers?
And what about those new-build buyers who want solar panels and heat pumps and lower energy bills? Could cutting the requirement for building them in mean any savings just translated into higher bills for the homeowner?

#Grenfell was 9 years ago. Behind these failed numbers delivered by members of @HomeBuildersFed to fix unsafe homes, there are families trapped and financially stressed. Every building has a number of sad and preventable stories. @EOCS_Official @AngelaRayner @andyburnham @mhclg

The message is clear: building more homes has been prioritised over making existing homes safe.
Despite the missed targets, self-reported data and years of delay, there is still no meaningful change in @mhclg's approach.
Warm words. Weak oversight. Unsafe homes.

Leasehold reform is not a London issue. It is a national issue. It is not a party issue. It is a people issue. It's a National Scandal !

'Hard work and saving should count for something'
Unless you buy a defective home. Then you work hard for nothing. Bill after bill, service charge fees on top, no way to sell.
Let's be honest.
A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home.
That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible.
My Labour government is stepping in to help.
With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%.
Because hard work and saving should count for something.
And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.
