A memecoin is cornering the supply of Robin Hood hats, a 22-year-old RuneScape item.
Five days in, it owns 8,044 of them—players have already assembled in World 305 to protest.
How it works:
People trade $RSTR → fees buy OSRS gold → gold buys Robin Hood hats → available supply shrinks → in-game price rips → attention drives volume → more hats get bought.
So far:
• 61B GP spent ~ $15.9k
• In-game value now at ~$22k
• Over 8K hats across 8 accounts
• Price moved: 7.63M GP --> 10.6M GP
Whilst it's very likely these accounts will swiftly get banned for real-world trading, it's amusing to see an exogenous onchain economy impacting a game world in this way.
I've long been a huge fan of the intersection of Old School Runescape and crypto (@playcambria), and never cease to be amazed by the myriad ways these communities overlap and cross-pollinate to this day!
