Are Local Government Elections Being Pushed Into an Indefinite Delay? The ECP has halted local government election preparations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Punjab's first phase of elections has been postponed to February 7, 2027. With Article 140-A suspended across KP, serious questions emerge about the constitutional protection of elected local governments. Can governor’s rule override this constitutional provision? And why does Punjab continue to face delays in holding local elections? @ABMPildat examines what these developments mean for local democracy, the devolution of power and citizens waiting to elect their local representatives. Watch the latest analysis on here - youtu.be/uijMrnZOEBU

Opposition demand to have equal representation in the parliament’s special committee on electoral reforms is not unjustified and should be accepted. The last such committee was formed in 2014. Then PM Nawaz Sharif conceded 19 seats to opposition vs 15 for the ruling party.

As Parliament considers another round of electoral reforms, @ABMPildat highlights the gaps in existing laws, from campaign financing and ECP independence to local government elections and caretaker governments. The real challenge is not simply making new laws, but ensuring that existing ones are implemented and electoral interference is addressed. Watch the full discussion here - youtu.be/ybQs_xIT-zQ

Generally, provincial assemblies are not very keen about empowered local govts but Punjab Assembly proved to be an exception as it demanded constitutional amendment to empower LGs. Credit goes to Honourable Speaker @PAPGovPK for steering the house in this direction!
