‼️A new story from our lab!🙌 We show that SNI1, a component of the SMC5/6 complex, acts as a temperature-dependent brake on class II crossovers, helping shape where genetic exchange occurs in Arabidopsis. Huge effort by Alex made it happen🙏
1/2 My very first post on X—and what better occasion than the publication of our paper in @NaturePlants! 🌱
We identify SNI1 as the first plant gene linking temperature to meiotic recombination, generating genetic diversity that may help plants adapt.

Now also with a Nature Plants Research Briefing! 🌱
A short overview of how SNI1/NSE5 links temperature to meiotic crossover control in Arabidopsis.
New OA Article: "SNI1/NSE5 is a cold-sensitive brake on class II crossovers in Arabidopsis"

A very cool story showing, once again, that nature will find a way…
Out today in Nature: sex without crossovers.
Rhynchospora tenuis makes pollen, fertilises and sets seed, yet 0 crossovers in 10,997 pollen nuclei. Chromosome drive and ~87% seed abortion rebuild the mother's genotype, so the offspring are clones.

A quick correction: the post below should say H3K4me3, not H3K9me3. 👇
📣Our paper is finally out!🤩 We found that local modification of H3K9me3 using CRISPR/dCas9 at hotspots changes crossover activity, bringing us closer to targeted recombination in plants.🌱
Huge thanks to @SzymanskaLejman, Wojtek, Ania, and Karolina!💪

Our latest paper on SCEP3 suggests that CO interference is required to reduce numbers of COs for individual pairs to <3 so that there enough for all chromosomes to maintain the obligate CO nature.com/articles/s41477-0…
🌿🔍Paper alert‼️
A fantastic study from James Higgins’ group on SCEP3 – a newly identified component of the synaptonemal complex in plants!
Happy that our team could be part of this! 😄🧬
New OA Article: "SCEP3 initiates synapsis and implements crossover interference in Arabidopsis" rdcu.be/eQKqW
A new synaptonemal complex protein; prevents clustering of crossovers during meiosis, so every pair of chromosomes receives at least one ‘obligate’ crossover.
