Resident Evil Requiem generated more revenue from physical PS5 sales than from all Xbox versions combined.
According to new estimates from Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, Resident Evil Requiem has sold approximately 1.3 million physical copies on PlayStation, generating over $92.3 million in revenue.
That’s roughly 30.2% of the game’s total PlayStation revenue and 15% of its revenue across all platforms.
Even more impressively, physical PS5 sales alone generated 1.8 times more revenue than all Xbox sales combined, including physical, digital, and Xbox PC purchases.
The report also highlights the continued popularity of physical games in Japan:
Pragmata: 44% of PlayStation copies sold were physical.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword: 44.1% were physical.
Marvel’s Wolverine: Nearly 800,000 of its estimated 2.6 million copies sold were physical.
Meanwhile, Sony is offering a Japan-exclusive, digital-only black PS5 for approximately $350, with a separate disc drive costing around $76. Elliott believes this pricing strategy is designed to gradually encourage Japanese players to embrace digital purchases.
Sports games tell a different story. Physical editions accounted for just 8.9% of EA Sports FC 27’s PlayStation revenue, highlighting how dramatically purchasing habits vary between genres.
Despite the industry’s growing shift toward digital distribution, physical games remain a significant source of revenue, particularly for major single-player releases.

Rumor: Leaked specifications of a new AMD chip have surfaced online, reportedly intended to power Valve’s next-generation handheld console, potentially the Steam Deck 2.
If the information turns out to be accurate, we could be looking at a significant performance upgrade:
— CPU: 6 Zen 6 cores and 12 threads, up from the original Steam Deck’s 4 cores.
— GPU: 16 compute units clocked at up to 2.4 GHz, twice the number found in the original Steam Deck.
— RAM: 24GB of LPDDR5 memory running at 9600 MT/s, a 50% increase over the previous 16GB.
However, more powerful hardware could also drive up manufacturing costs and, consequently, the retail price.
With memory and component prices continuing to rise, the potential price of the Steam Deck 2 is becoming an especially interesting question.
The new PlayStation Pulse headset will launch on November 19 for $100, while the more advanced Pulse Edge will go on sale in early 2027.

PlayStation has released a new ad showcasing its collaboration with LISA from BLACKPINK.
The video features not only a special-themed DualSense controller but also footage from Marvel’s Wolverine, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, God of War: Laufey, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
Kratos from God of War was originally supposed to be named Dominus!
David Jaffe thought the name sounded powerful and commanding. However, every time someone said “Dominus,” someone else would joke, “30 minutes or it’s free” or “Open the door, it’s Dominus,” referencing Domino’s Pizza.
Jaffe eventually realized the name had to change. One developer printed out a list of ancient Greek names, and Jaffe highlighted Julius, Parthenius, and Maximus, but none felt quite right.
In the end, marketing executive Suzanne Panico saved the day by suggesting the name Kratos.
Sony now owns the rights to Kena: Scars of Kosmora.
PlayStation released a new ad featuring LISA, and at the 28-second mark, footage from the game appears with a copyright notice stating that SIE owns the rights.
However, the original reveal trailer stated that Ember Lab owned all rights to the game.
Joe Ziegler, former game director of Marathon, revealed that Bungie faced significant internal disagreements during the development of Marathon.
Ziegler joined the project midway through development after being approached by friends at Bungie, including Justin Truman, the studio’s now-former head. He initially came on board as a consultant, but the team eventually needed more substantial help.
When Ziegler asked developers about their vision for the game, he discovered plenty of ideas but also considerable disagreement.
“Sometimes teams quickly reach a consensus, and everyone knows what they’re working toward. Other times, people’s ideas about their work are completely disconnected. While working on this project, I saw that although we had a clear direction in some areas, there were still a lot of disagreements.”
Despite these challenges, Ziegler described Bungie as a studio without a big ego, emphasizing its openness to outside ideas and willingness to bring new talent into its projects.
However, he also acknowledged the enormous pressure Bungie faces because of its legacy with Halo and Destiny.
Xbox Senior Business Strategy Manager Brandon Stirrup has reportedly deleted his X account after criticizing game developers who refuse to embrace AI.

Not everyone knows about PlayStation’s first handheld gaming accessory.
Released exclusively in Japan in 1999, the PocketStation was a tiny PS1 memory card with a monochrome screen that could also run mini-games.
It supported titles like Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped and Final Fantasy VIII, where players could take their Chocobo on adventures in the portable mini-game Chocobo World.
The device also allowed players to transfer certain game data and rewards back to their PS1.
