Early in my PT career, I accidentally trained the athleticism and flow OUT of baseball players… Until I realized: the same neural pathways that take you from lying on your back → walking are the key to unlocking natural athleticism and flow. Masterclass by @bryceharper3

In all my research I did for my feature on the CLA coaching movement, this is the first time I’ve seen a team publicly announce the CLA as their guiding principle in this fashion. It may be because the CLA was relatively unknown to the outside world before our story and teams using it often tried to keep it a secret, but this is a pretty big step forward for the CLA movement. Here’s the story, which includes a section on Alex Sarama’s work that helped transform the Cavs last season. Before he left for the W, he was promoted to assistant coach and was given a bigger role in shaping the Cavs offensive system this year. nytimes.com/athletic/6665943…
“Head Coach Alex Sarama represents the next generation of coaching. He’s not just teaching the game, he’s transforming it.” - Vanja Černivec

This is elite coaching “We are trying to play fast when it’s 5 on 5, we can’t do that. We have to manipulate the spacing first” Really good stuff This is how to communicate in the huddle with your team (Via @NBCSCeltics 🎥)

"When I hear about guys sleeping in their office I wonder what they hell they're doing there. Cause the game ain't that hard. The work will always be there, your kids won't. I tell my coaches, if you miss a recital or little league game... I'll fire you." - Bruce Arians

I walk around the local schools after dinner. There's two youth football teams practicing a couple nights a week. I've seen kids less than 8 years old running for punishment more than once. Why??? If anyone needs coaching it's them! I saw a grown man groan and yell because a child false started in a practice rep and you would've thought the world was ending. Don't use physical exercise as punishment. Teach your athletes. Coach them. Don't just yell and make them hurt because you can't control YOUR emotions.
Running more at practice as punishment has never corrected an in-game mistake. Coaching correction and skill development do.

I coached for 43 seasons. The biggest mistakes I made were not schematic. They were post game right after the heat of the battle comments. Some good and some bad. Both can come back and bite you. Don’t overly praise or criticize. Give everyone some time to breathe and evaluate the film. Good luck this season! ✝️💪🏈

This is such great coaching wisdom from @NotreDame Head Coach Brock Sheahan. Practices should look messy. Players need to be able to work through failure and mistakes. “If you can’t get beat in September…when can you get beat?”

42% of teens say they feel sad or lonely. Nearly 1 in 3 struggles with anxiety. Coaches can change that. With 6.5 million youth coaches nationwide, we have an untapped resource to tackle the youth mental health crisis. Congratulations to MCC partner, the @ussoccerfndn, for launching Yes, Coach! to train 100,000 coaches as mentors over the next five years. 📖 Read more in @USATODAY: usatoday.com/story/opinion/2…

Many of our systems preparing athletes for the performance context create stability, but at the expense of flexibility. From an ecological framework, we are interested in metastability - the ability to hold that tension between stability and flexibility of movement solutions.

One of my favorite clips from the podcast was Sue telling a story about being on a plane and seeing a fan watching her game on the plane. After Caitlin hit a three the man raised up his arms on the plane in excitement. “You make people feel” Sue tells Caitlin. Exactly Sue 🥹

Small Sides Games & Decisions making, through chaos and changing variables. Every player, regardless of position is expected to grow in these areas. Love the coachability of @uclawbb . Falling in love with the PROCESS of what it takes to become great. #DoTheWork #GrowOurGame #TeachMentorEquip

Smarter footballers are made through game-like training, not fixed drills. Modern skill learning thrives on real decisions and perception–action demands—football isn’t choreography, it’s dynamic play. ⚽️🌱 👉🏼 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…

High-quality coaching has been consistently linked to improved athlete outcomes, including technical proficiency, tactical understanding, and psychological growth (Dohme et al., 2019). In other words, training the coach improves the athlete.

This is it! Why he is loved as a coach why he was able to get the most out of unique group of great talented men. Celebrates the unique qualities and abilities of each person. Great coach!

Really good post. Coaches and parents are the keys to getting kids to work out. Start in middle school and don’t stop! 2x52 Two workouts a week 52 weeks a year will change a kid.
How do we get so many 7-8th graders to lifts? Because the sport coaches tell them to and show up! Remember coaches… It’s MY job to program and train your kids. It’s YOUR job to push them to workouts and show up as well. It’s a dual partnership!

Our talent pool would be bigger if the last 10 minutes of youth practice became the entire hour of youth practice 10 min left is not the time for games The whole time is the time for games
