What a wonderful way to begin 2026 — receiving warm holiday greetings and congratulations from one of the leading figures in theoretical and computational chemistry, a true role model, and my dear friend, Joseph Vincent Ortiz!
🌺ICCB 2025 – International Conference on Chemical Bonding 🌺August 23–27, 2025, Kauai, Hawaii 🌴🌊
I'm excited to share that I’m co-organizing ICCB 2025 together with Prof. Anastassia Alexandrova (UCLA) and Prof. Lai-Sheng Wang (Brown University)!

Wonderful work!
In their latest work, Eric J. Schelter and his colleagues have shown that 4f orbitals can play an essential role in guiding the reaction of a molecule attached to a lanthanide. cen.acs.org/materials/inorga…

Pushing the known limits of lanthanide oxidation, chemists have isolated praseodymium (Pr) in the +5 oxidation state. The finding suggests that chemists should shift how they situate lanthanides in the periodic table. cen.acs.org/materials/inorga…
Happy to share the C&EN article on the first molecular Pr5+ complex!

Thanks @f_orbitals, @bessvlai, @rcsabya for the excellent collaboration elucidating the first molecular Pr5+! 👍👍👍
High valent lanthanide, inverted ligand field and associated challenges..What a fun project to work on! Many thanks to @bessvlai, team @f_orbitals and @Popov_Group for this wonderful collaboration.

Excited to share the final version of Pr5+, now out in Nature Chemistry! Many thanks to co-authors, this was a huge lift from all fronts nature.com/articles/s41557-0… – at Wisconsin, USA
Congrats to my grad student @ChadStudvick with #10 publication from my lab at WSU!!!
Always happy to collaborate with Jim Boncella and his group! Learn about metal-arene interactions and hapticity in TM and An complexes in Polyhedron at: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
It was a great conference!!!
🎉 We had an amazing time at @Aromaticity2025 a couple of weeks ago! Here’s a collection of great memories. Huge thanks to @theochemmerida, @miquelsola, and @OttossonGroup for making it all possible! 🙌 #Aromaticity

After seeing multiple posts discussing the flaws of PhD supervisors, finally one representing the other side!
Wonderful news! My grad student @ChadStudvick has been accepted to participate in the Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) Research Student Internship (RSI) summer program. Chad will work at ORNL to perform computational chemistry research on transuranic compounds!
It was an honor to give an invited talk on geometric and electronic structure evolution of Group 13 hydrides at the international conference Aromaticity 2025 held in Merida, Mexico! Thank you the organizers – Gabriel Merino, Miquel Solà, and Henrik Ottosson!
Prof. Zhong-Ming Sun from Nankai University gave an exciting seminar on new sandwich compounds with group 15 cyclo-rings as ligands. Thank you Zhong-Ming for visiting and giving a wonderful presentation!

Starting yesterday and over the next few days, we will immerse ourselves in an exciting program featuring 44 lectures and discussions. Speakers from institutions worldwide will share their latest research and insights on #aromaticity. The event will continue until next Thursday.
Thanks, Marc!
Ivan Popov @Popov_Group discussing geometric and electronic structure evolution of group 13 #hydrides. Another nice lecture this evening at @Aromaticity2025.
