The loudest debates in nutrition usually aren’t about science. They’re about bias. I see people mocking high carb and see others mocking low carb all the time on Twitter. Both are 100% sure they’re right. And both feel the exact same way about the other. That should tell you everything. Most of us defend what worked for us and assume it’ll work for everyone else too. We want our personal success to be universal truth, but I have slowly learned over the years that it is not as I found success visiting different diet camps, and experimentimg with different macro combinations. Confirmation bias is real. We see what we want to see. Over time, we stop following a diet and start identifying with it. This is what leads to tribalism, zealotry, and closed mindedness Someone reversing Type 2 diabetes with keto or carnivore isn’t wrong. Someone crushing it in the gym on high carb isn’t wrong. Someone losing 100 pounds just tracking calories and walking isn’t wrong. Someone thriving on an ethical plant based diet isn't wrong. Etc. What is wrong is thinking there’s only one right answer. The body is adaptable. What works depends on insulin sensitivity, training style, genetics, goals, even values. These things change as we get older and evolve. I think we can really progress if we all examine where our personal biases lay and be more open minded and accepting of solutions that work for others. @martykendall2 said it best: "Nutrition should be about nutrients and not dogma". I think that is a great message. I would encourage folks on nutrition Twitter to adopt a more diet agnostic approach, and let go of artifical labels and self imposed barriers that hold you back from reaching your full potential and evolving.

We just published a critical review of the KETO-CTA study — the first study to examine coronary plaque progression in Lean Mass Hyper-Responders (LMHRs) on a ketogenic diet. Here’s why we believe the study’s results have been seriously misrepresented. 1/14
