The BIS dropped a killer speech in July and nobody noticed. They’re visualising a unified blockchain for central banks but missing the whole point, as usual. bis.org/speeches/sp260624.pd…

I’m starting to combine the criticisms of Crypto on mainstream monetary systems and the needs of modern systems in my head. It’s been a wild ride, and I’ve been reading a lot. Join me. I’ll be putting more up on Substack soon.

Gold has officially crossed into bearish territory after a multi-year bull run. History shows us that it isn’t bearish for long. I’d be interested to see how long it stays bearish after such a huge blow off top.

This is exactly the sort of innovation Australia should encourage. A NSW brewery is using surplus rooftop solar to mine Bitcoin when electricity would otherwise be exported for little return. The heat from the miners is then recovered and used to brew beer and wash bottles. That is one energy input source giving rising to two valuable products: Bitcoin and industrial heat. That’s making better use of energy, not wasting it. When electricity would otherwise be curtailed or exported at very low value, flexible loads such as Bitcoin mining can monetise that surplus. If the heat can also be recovered for industrial processes, the overall economics become even stronger*

This is the coolest shit
NSW brewery @HawkesburyBrew has been making headlines over the past 24 hours. Operations Manager Adam Neal said the brewery uses excess solar energy to power liquid-cooled Bitcoin miners, with the recovered heat then used in brewing operations. The system is currently generating around $2,000 worth of bitcoin each month. “If you can utilise the heat for some sort of purpose… for heating, that’s fantastic,” said Professor Sean Foley, Professor of Applied Finance at Macquarie University. Bitcoin mining is increasingly proving to be more than just a source of revenue. For businesses with surplus energy or a need for low-cost heat, it can become another tool to reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the economics of their operations. The Australian Bitcoin Industry Body looks forward to more Australian businesses exploring how Bitcoin mining can turn wasted energy into lower costs and greater competitiveness.

Tin foil hat on. What if the Fed uses BTC as a barometer or standard of froth in the markets? Inflation news dropped today and BTC jumped. The Fed sees this and adjusts their future interest rate adjustments accordingly. Rinse and repeat. Food for thought. 🧐

This is probably the most interesting part of BTC’s price analysis history hands down. Monthly MACD in the past pretty reliably shifts from red to pink in predictable waves. This is a very rare red=>pink=>red wobble. Meanwhile, RSI is lower than it has been for years. Sentiment is through the floor, price seems to be barely holding onto stability at 60K. Some strength showing today. The next few weeks will be interesting 👀

So im sitting here with my coffee reading yet another USD based stablecoin is launching. Yay I guess, more of the same, but then as Im reading the list of business that have signed on I notice something different. Firstly the list is massive, I had to actually scroll my phone to read them all and secondly the list includes the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, National Australia Bank and ANZ....the big 4 in Australia. ⚡️This is the stablecoin rail getting absorbed by the highest-trust financial incumbents. The real move is dollar-token infrastructure becoming mainstream payment plumbing. Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, BlackRock, Coinbase, and Ripple all sit at different choke points: merchant acceptance, card networks, institutional assets, custody, exchange distribution, and cross-chain settlement. Put those together and stablecoins stop looking like a crypto side product. They become a regulated dollar layer for the internet. The old card networks see the threat clearly. Stablecoins can move value faster, cheaper, globally, and programmably. That threatens the fee stack, settlement timing, and network control that card rails live on. Their response is to occupy the rail early. They would rather wrap stablecoin settlement into their own ecosystem than let wallets and blockchains route around them. BlackRock’s presence is the institutional tell. BlackRock does not care about crypto ideology. It cares about collateral, liquidity, tokenized funds, treasury settlement, money-market plumbing, and the future of financial inventory. Stablecoins are the cash leg of tokenized capital markets. Without a programmable dollar, tokenized assets remain incomplete. Coinbase is the bridge between regulated crypto and users. Visa/Mastercard/AmEx bring distribution. BlackRock brings institutional legitimacy. That combination says the next phase is no longer retail crypto speculation. It is dollar settlement architecture. The biggest implication is that the digital dollar is arriving through private rails. America does not need a retail CBDC if regulated stablecoins become the global programmable dollar. The state gets dollar extension. Institutions get compliance. Payment networks get relevance. Exchanges get flow. Asset managers get tokenized cash collateral. That is the deep signal. Crypto is being institutionalized through stablecoins first because stablecoins are the part of crypto Wall Street can understand, regulate, monetize, and scale. Bitcoin is sovereign collateral. Stablecoins are the transactional rail. Tokenized treasuries are the yield layer. Exchanges and wallets become the new brokerage/payment interface.
JUST IN: Visa, Mastercard, BlackRock, Coinbase, and American Express to launch joint crypto stablecoin

From July 1st (tomorrow) crypto in Australia changes forever. Your CEX is now legally required to log EVERY SINGLE transfer you make no matter how small. AUSTRAC's Travel Rule kicks in with zero minimum threshold, so a $5 movement carries the same reporting weight as a $50k one. Every Aussie centralised exchange now has to record full sender and beneficiary details on every transfer crossing their platform. Full name, country, city, wallet address. Binance and Coinspot already confirmed it for both incoming deposits and outgoing withdrawals. Every other VASP operating here sits under the same regime. Send crypto from your CEX to your own ledger? They log where it went and who you say owns it. Someone sends you crypto? You provide your details before it lands. Refuse and the transfer gets blocked. The ATO already has data sharing agreements with every Australian exchange covering over a million Aussie crypto users. AUSTRAC processes more than two million threshold transaction reports a year. From tomorrow there is a near complete paper trail on your on chain behaviour the moment it touches a regulated platform. Some people are pulling bitcoin to self custody this week ahead of the deadline. Others are doing nothing and assuming it will not apply to them. Both groups are about to find out how serious AUSTRAC actually are. You can rage about it on Twitter or get your records bulletproof before October 31. The crypto tax software I personally use to track every CEX, DEX and on chain wallet is dropped in the first comment 👇
