Besides THE WIRE, THE SOPRANOS and GAME OF THRONES, what’s one HBO series everyone needs to watch at least once? Looking for those underrated gems and all-time greats that deserve to be in the conversation.

It's just so much obfuscation! taking practical questions ("ok what about the ongoing sanctions?") and making them into higher level inquiries ("do these sanctions constitute The Good?")

He also wrote seemingly endless pro-war-but-technically-anti-war opeds leading up to Iraq where he endorsed all of the invasion’s premises but handwrung over process. A true profile in courage and clearly not just a token “leftist” neocons platformed to advance their agenda (4/4)

and ofc they don't so -- it's a literal "The Perfect" constitutes the enemy of "The Good"

This is like seeing Jiminy Glick be interviewed by one his guests

One of my best friends in college studied accounting, so over the years ive spent serious time hanging out with accountants. They’re fun like these guys are fun!
Obsessed with this guy who finds the most boring average looking men in Boston and then street harasses them (“who let this DADDY outside?!”), and they absolutely LOVE IT and are beaming from the attention. Much to consider here

One time we went to a jazz bar and I got to enjoy four accountants doing “air clarinet” and cracking each other up

Vivek, what is this behavior?

@megynkelly exposes the truth about Amy Acton. It’s uncomfortable, but every voter in Ohio should watch every second of this.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Court records corroborate that Amy Acton's stepfather was charged and indicted in 1978 for raping her as a child, after which she and her brother were removed from their mother's custody. nationalreview.com/news/amy-acton… cbsnews.com/news/ohio-gove…

Soviet art has set the standard for the next millennium and will crush your cosmopolitoid 'taste'

are we really doing this again? plenty of great artists survived the soviet system, but it was very emphatically not good for the contemporary arts
Having bad politics is one thing but Matt Taibbi summarily dismissing 70 years of Soviet art - Chagall, Bulgakov, Pasternak, Prokofiev, Nissky, etc - is the sort of thing that should make anyone with a high school diploma embarrassed to talk to him

OK but not remotely a new phenomenon. at my (southern, boys') prep school in the 90s, no one objected to doing well academically, but to be *seen to be studying* was socially disadvantageous
As someone who did not perform very well in school, I get that you can be smart without being Type A, but I'm loving the new wave of guys insisting that the world should be run by the kid who couldn't sit still and kept turning his eyelids inside out and eating paper.

in AP English, it was a contest to see, a) who could do the least assigned reading; b) the most out-of-class reading; and c) still rock that 5 on the exam
