Check out our (Noah, Josh, and @DocAJMM) recent study in @InorgChem on the oxidative addition of a P-O bond! This project all started with an attempted synthetic shortcut to access a NiH, but instead led to the discovery of new reactivity at low-valent Ni! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…

Excited for this paper from my postdoc w/ @sunflower423 to be in print @J_A_C_S ! We showed that it is possible to invert traditional metal-ligand relationships and drive catalytic reactions solely from a hydridic P site without invoking reactivity at Ru! doi.org/10.1021/jacs.2c10200

Check out the newest paper from my colleague @MylesDrance and former team metallophosphorane member @sunflower423! Take a look for 2-site oxidative addition across a M-P bond, stay for a wild bridging Ir2P2 dimer

Thanks Alex! The really special part you left out was that we got to speak back-to-back, since you won the CHAS faculty safety award! So a second set of congratulations for @DocAJMM!
Congratulations @QJBruch for the CHAS student safety award! If you’re at #ACSChicago and interested in Joint Safety Teams, check out bud award lecture at 2:50 in Hyatt Conference center Dusable room.

Really excited for this collaborative study of electrochemical N2 cleavage to be out today and a big thank you to my coauthors: @random_chemist, @Goldman_Group, and @DocAJMM! Together we uncovered some surprising observations in N2 splitting at Mo (1/n) pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021…

The bimetallic Mo(0) is stable towards N2 cleavage, but we found that it would comproportionate with starting material (and Mo(II) species) to form the Mo(N) product! This means that relevant reactions were taking place at the electrode surface and in the bulk solution. (3/n)

Piecing together these mechanisms required a fun mix of CV, DFT, and spectroelectrochemistry and perhaps the biggest take home (aside from N2 splitting being complex!) is that reactions both at the electrode surface and in the bulk solution were mechanistically important (5/5)
1
The second big surprise was that this was not the only pathway. Electrolysis of an isolated intermediate under Ar still yielded the Mo(N) product, even though the bimetallic Mo(0) could not form. This led to a second proposed mechanism solely at the electrode surface. (4/n)
