Good news animals: all that teenage dare-devilry pays off...at least in migration.
Adolescent exploration helps storks to learn straighter + shorter migration routes✈️

We only rate dogs. This is a sheep. We don't care if it's Halloween. Please respect the foundation of our institution and only send dogs. Thank you… 13/10

ALT a very fluffy white creature with skinny black legs and floppy black ears stands on a rug and stares somewhat forlornly at the camera. the “sheep” has a long white snout very suspiciously like a borzoi’s, and we suspect the whole body may just be a fluffy white lambskin rug flopped over a dog’s back.
Teaching my students about extinction today because that’s some spooky stuff! #Halloween

Well, I don't use this app much anymore, but this paper is now out! We used camera traps, telemetry, and visual surveys to look at selection on coat color in squirrels: #open_access doi.org/10.1002/ece3.10544
The very last survey for our upcoming paper on urban melanism in Eastern Gray Squirrels wound up being the most productive of the entire project: 15 total squirrels in a single 3 minute stationary point count... 7 gray and 8 melanic! @squirrelsevolve

Even funding designed to “help students complete their degrees” falls below minimum wage. With the research expectations for PhD students, unlivable stipends are not just insulting, they are exploitative.
PhD students seems to use food banks. Not because they want, but because they are heavily underpaid
