The victory of Abdul El-Sayed in the Senate race in Michigan is extremely important and symbolic.
Abdul ran a strong anti-war campaign, constantly (and correctly) linking the US war against Iran to the rising cost of living and high gasoline and food prices. He emphasized that that money should be spent on social programs, not war.
Abdul also staunchly supported Palestine and refused to give in to relentless attacks by pro-Israel groups. Trump and the Republicans desperately resorted to extreme Islamophobia and racism, smearing him as a "terrorist". And it didn't work.
This victory further demonstrates that wars and Israel are now absolutely toxic issues in US politics.
The only reason Trump won the 2024 election is because the Biden-Harris administration was very unpopular and he deceived Americans into believing two main things:
1, he would bring down prices, following sky-high inflation; and
2, he would stop waging wars.
Trump blatantly lied about both.
Inflation in the US keeps rising. Gasoline prices have skyrocketed (due to Trump's wars). Food is expensive. Housing costs are out of control. Healthcare is a disaster. But Trump only cares about the stock market and AI data centers.
Meanwhile, Trump launched a war of aggression against Iran, continued sponsoring Israel's genocide in Gaza, bombed Yemen, invaded Venezuela, and blockaded Cuba, while waging nonstop trade war and failing to stop the proxy war in Ukraine.
Let's be clear here: the Democrats' overwhelming victory in the midterm is not because Americans suddenly love the Democratic Party. In fact, DNC leadership has mostly sat on its hands and has done very little to oppose Trump's destructive oligarchic agenda.
Rather, this overwhelming victory represents the people's overwhelming rejection of US wars, Israel, and a government that only cares about Big Tech corporate oligarchs.
