The hypothesis that normal HCO3 isn't the whole story with respect to acid handling is definitely out there (this ref from 2017): ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article… @weddellite

Great work as usual - chipping away at the skeptics! Well done
Please check out our new preprint! We use oxalate degradation as an example, to demonstrate within the human microbiome, sometimes a function is contributed by diverse microbes at the genetic level, but dominated by one single organism transcriptionally.

Most CKD patients die from CV disease. NIDDK says NHLBI must fund anything with CV endpoint. NHLBI won’t fund HD studies ergo there is no funding source for CV trials in ESKD. Catch 22! How do we move the needle and get NIH to fund research on a fundamental threat to our pts?

It's our birthday! The first RaDaR patient was recruited 9 years ago today, on the 18th January 2010. We've come a long way since then, with over 21,000 recruits from 97 hospitals. Many thanks to our supporters @Kidney_Research @kidneycareuk @PKDCharity @RenalAssoc @RenalRegistry

I’m going to support your kids someday soon - The topic clearly appeals to nephrons - Ben told me today that he interviewed a wildlife veterinarian about salt toxicity in beavers in coastal areas...THAT is nephrology!

The Rare Kidney Stone Consortium favors genetic testing of stone formers and @johnasayer’s approach! (Ignore @weddellite, the man behind the curtain; he is confused and ambivalent)
