English gets its adjective endings -al and -ar (as in 'nasal' and 'lunar') from Latin -ālis and -āris.
These are really the same ending! Latin used the form -āris to avoid two Ls close together in a word.
Hence we find -ar in words with L in the root, like 'solar' and 'vulgar'.

Ok I'm gonna confess I don't have Henderson Hasselbalch memorized even though it's just a rearranged equilibrium expression for H2O+CO2 <=> HCO3- + H+ combined with definition of pH (and conversion of [CO2] to pCO2 for the medical-oriented versions)
Let's henderson hasselbalch #medtwitter @TheSkeletonKG @SaynaNorouzi @AlamriNarjes @raad_chowdhury @DTomacruzMD @iheartkidneys #Nephpearls . Thank you @NephRodby
but I know pH 7.4 ([H+] = 10e-7.4), HCO3 24, and pCO2 40 is a valid set of values and that
[HCO3][H+] / pCO2 = a constant
So if given a new set of values with 1 missing: pH 7.0, pCO2 15, and HCO3 = ?
[HCO3?] * 10e-7 / 15 should also = same constant
