The older you get, the more you realize how pointless it is to tell people your business. Your plans, money, relationships, and struggles don't need an audience. Move in silence. Privacy is power.

You have to reach the point where your fear of dying mediocre outweighs your fear of looking like an idiot. The first version of anything you do will be embarrassing, that should be obvious, but too many people let that thought keep them the same for decades on end.

Are you measuring outcomes or outputs? Vanta CEO Christina Cacioppo (@christinacaci) said it right in a recent interview. Every AI company claims to price on outcomes, but most of what gets called an outcome is actually an output: documents drafted, alert closed, account offboard. An output is something the software did. An outcome is something that changed for the customer because of it. How they are different: -- A drafted contract is an output. A deal that closed faster is an outcome. -- A closed alert is an output. A breach that didn’t happen is an outcome. -- An offboarded account is an output. Zero lingering access when the auditor shows up is the outcome. Outputs are easy to count, which is exactly why AI startups bill based on outputs. But billing on outputs rewards volume, not value. Pay per alert closed, and you’ve built a system that’s rewarded for closing alerts, not for making you more secure. AI Buyers: ask what you’d measure six months from now to know it worked. If the vendor’s pricing unit isn’t tied to that, you’re paying for activity. AI Startups: real outcome pricing means taking on risk you don’t fully control. That’s hard. Calling per-task pricing “outcome-based” is easy, and customers are starting to notice the difference. This goes to the recent discussion around CONSEQUENTIAL and VERIFIABLE. Buyers value (and pay the most for) consequential, non-verifiable (long horizon) outcomes. Outputs are what the software does. Outcomes are why anyone buys it.

very weird thing happening rn technical people are sad, they think their skills are now useless non-technical people are desperately wishing they were more technical so they could use agents better

For centuries, the architecture of the firm has barely changed: hierarchies of people organized into departments and coordinated through bureaucracy. AI agents are about to upend that. We’re moving toward the self-driving company where humans exercise judgment and agents execute most of the work. At Replit, we’re building the foundation for this new kind of company. We’re calling it “the Agent Habitat.” Marc Andreessen wrote a fantastic piece placing this shift in the history of computing. Every major computing revolution began with chaos before businesses figured out how to harness it.

Three qualities I hire for: - curiosity - hunger to win - resilience and optimism aka people who obsess over how the world works, volunteer for the hard stuff, do A+ work, and stay optimistic even when things don't go their way.

Foursquare was acquired last month. The outcome was disappointing. It's taken me a while to write this, but I think I'm finally done grieving it. Here are some thoughts on our final years, an effort to honor the team who helped build & maintain FSQ's legacy, and my attempt to finally get some closure. teendrama.substack.com/p/som…

Stupid simple framework for prioritizing AI use cases in your business. X axis = can we execute it today? (readiness) Y axis = how big is the prize? (impact) 1) Accelerate now = big prize, ready to execute 2) Invest to unlock = big prize, not ready 3) Quick wins = small prize, ready to execute 4) Deprioritize = small prize, not ready

Travis Kalanick on the founder's paradox: the better you get, the harder it is to stay fired up. "The young entrepreneurs that are coming up right now don't totally get it." "When you get into your 3rd and 4th company, I don't know, this may be even my 5th at this point, you get fricking really good at doing stuff." "Things that used to take me a day or three days, a lot of stress, anxiety, like, 'How am I gonna do this?' take me like 45 minutes. And that's a beautiful thing." "I'm so used to adversity at this point that it's kind of normal, so I don't get as pissed off. But being pissed off makes you good as an entrepreneur, so I gotta make sure I'm still fired up." "You get too used to adversity, and that's kind of a problem." Full conversation: youtube.com/watch?v=r8qKNFeB… @travisk

There is a massive wave coming that almost no business is ready for - agentic traffic <1% of consumers are using agents now, but that will change and usher in a new era of consumer demand How do you manage 5x the inbound calls? Qualify 10,000 new leads? Fulfill 500 new orders?

Higgsfield have scaled to $1BN in ARR in 18 months; that is faster than Cursor. But did you know they have over 150 people in content production alone? For every product release, funding announcement, you name it, they have built a content machine that is unmatched. The next generation of companies will have content baked into their DNA.
