I think at some point we need to move from taking this as a serious ‘reason’ to be against preregistration, and call these people out for being too incompetent on research methods to take their opinion seriously. As we wrote doi.org/10.1080/2833373X.202…

Group sequential analysis is a technique to collect data in batches, analyze the data after each batch, and decide to continue or not – all while controlling your Type 1 error rate. It provides a lot of flexibility, while maintaining rigour. >

Can you imagine if scientists or funders appreciated sleuths like this? Or if we saw potential examples of misconduct as vulnerabilities in our processes that needed to be addressed?
I Hacked @NASA (again) and reported some vulnerabilities to them. Just today, I received this appreciation letter from them after they patched the loopholes!

Continuing after the coffee break with @RaphaelMerz about misinterpretation of non-significant results. It promises to be a talk full of memes!
Getting started with the Paul Meehl graduate school today! @FitzgeraldJack_ talking about the importance of economists embracing equivalence testing, and how they can move towards this.

Gino's case against us has been dismissed. Scientists cannot effectively sue other scientists for exposing fraud/errors in their work. Those who work to correct the scientific record can sleep better tonight. Those who don’t want it corrected, well, I don’t care how they sleep.

I am thrilled to share that the @dfg_public is financing my proposal, "Addressing the generalizability crisis with large language models," as part of the @meta_rep priority program. I will soon announce openings for a PhD and a Postdoc position at @mpib_berlin (three years, starting early 2025) to work with me, @susafiedler, @marcel_binz, and @rui__mata on LLM applications aimed at improving generalizability in the behavioral and social sciences. Please share and reach out if interested.

Replying to @StanSastry
1) I did not say this was fraud. Your words, Stan. 2) My eyeballing is pretty good. 3). Because the folks who review grants might not consider that there is misconduct. Or the folks handing out the grants don't give a nanoparticle about fraud.

This paper will be the starting point for a discussion about whether we should from now on treat an AsPredicted preregistration as No Preregistration. The template has so little detail you can still publish a set of 5 studies, none of which replicate. That is problematic.
On December 8th, our Berkeley journal club read a paper claiming that thoughts of God increased algorithm appreciation. Today, @PNASNews published our attempts to replicate those results. Spoiler alert: we fail to replicate the original claims pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.24…
