In a time of increasing regional tension, Australian media need to be on high alert to lies from 'intelligence sources' -- recalling how we were fed lies about WMD to join an illegal war against Iraq.
In 2021 when the ASIO chief told journalists the scary tale of a "nest of spies" at work against Australia, he declined to say who -- but he knew he'd set the hare running.
👁️This is how it's done, in the best 'House of Cards' tradition:
Accuse spies of treachery, then hold off publicly saying the details, knowing that others would do so -- all the while maintaining your own dignified silence -- "But I could not possibly comment."

On cue, up pop several 'inside intelligence sources' to brief senior journalists to accuse 'Russia' as the evil spies:
👉Nine Network: "The most likely candidate would be Russia."
👉Seven Network: We don’t know for sure, but almost certainly Russia."
👉SkyNews: "He’s actually talking about Russia."
👉ABC News: "Security sources are privately pointing at Russia."
👉The Australian: “Senior operatives in the intelligence community strongly speculated that Russia was the nation state in question."
👉The Guardian: "There is a very high degree of certainty Mike Burgess is talking about Russia," according to ASPI Executive Director, old war horse Peter Jennings.
But we now learn from journalists -- in the US, not Australia -- that the spying country was actually India.

So, before 'senior intelligence sources" start whispering again -- and we join another illegal bloody war -- is it time for a Royal Commission into the intelligence community?

.@jcu’s move to end Planning degrees is alarming. When we're facing housing & climate crises, we need MORE planners, not fewer. I implore VC Prof @BiggsSimon to rethink this to champion a sustainable future #SaveJCUPlanning 🏡🌿Read @pia_planning letter 👉🏼 planning.org.au/documents/it…
Trying to free space on iPhone. Twitter says it’s using little space. #IPhone thinks it’s 5GB. What do I do?
Yes - Stan is increasingly painful. But this bit of ABC bashing from Rupert’s goons spelled “coronation” wrong - in the lead paragraph!!
Viewers actually DID ditch the ABC Coronation coverage when they saw Stan Grant there pontificating ..... Only promos I saw were that Julia Baird and Jeremy Fernandez were hosting. @abcnews should take note. QandA ratings have plummeted because of him. thewest.com.au/entertainment…

Seriously, stop with war & nuclear subs & focus on climate, planet, people, justice, wellbeing. Most leaders are NOT prioritising a peaceful, caring & just future. The battle between pol parties is super unhelpful. There are other modes & approaches grounded in place & relations.
I started at ABC Radio Cairns in 02 to make a radio show. I left 12 years later on the same salary, despite having more skills, experience, and duties. The ABC has a system of bands to determine salary. It decides a job could be done by someone with a …. #DontDiscountABC
Because of this, people who want to live and work in regional Australia & tell local stories for the ABC have been paying for the privilege for years. Time to fix that #DontDiscountABC

Today is the anniversary of the largest-ever nuclear detonation by the US military. On 1 March 1954, the US exploded a thermonuclear weapon, codenamed #Bravo, on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands. With an explosive yield of nearly 15 megatons, fallout spread across the region.
